In biblical times, when Mary and Joseph were walking to Bethlehem, they were looking for a place to stay. The re-enactment of their search is called a 'posada' in Spanish, which is kind of a Christmas tradition that Mexico has each year in December. And in this posada, piñatas are commonly used to celebrate together. Here are some things that you probably didn't know about the brightly colored baskets filled with candy.
1. The 7 Spikes Mean Something
7 spikes = 7 deadly sins that men as a race is often found committing.
2. Being Blind Helps
Being blindfolded represents the innocent that blindly have faith in religion.
3. 'Punch Bag' Piñata
The fact that the piñata is being hit shows how the hitter resists temptation from all the bright colors that may draw them to commit one of the seven deadly sins.
4. Drops of Heaven
Once the innocent hitter was able to resist the 7 deadly sins with blind faith in religion, the candy, is symbolic of the reward that is placed upon the hitter sent from heaven.

In the olden ages, piñatas were used to be made out of clay and now they're made out of paper mache
