Pillar Of (False) Fitness

Realizing that the ultimate goal of fitness is not just to look good is the most important part.

The fitness industry is a million dollar industry. From weight loss products to fitness gurus there is always the next best thing that people need to be doing to lose weight and get in shape. While I certainly don't doubt the validity of some of these things, I think it has certainly contributed to the mindset that most people possess these days. The way most people approach fitness is seriously flawed, I don’t blame them though. As a society, we have been taught that the glamour side of being in shape is the ultimate gift of your physical well-being and, unfortunately, not only does that send the wrong message but contributes to a lot of the people who fail with their weight loss/fitness goals.

I’ve used the term weight loss before but only because people relate to it. It’s a term that's thrown around so loosely with no thought given to the effect it has on the mindset that people have about the concept. Physical well-being is a way of life, weight loss is not.Weight loss shouldn't be a goal, it should be a result. As a result of living a healthy lifestyle you may shed some pounds, if you need to or can afford too, but that should just be a bonus of the process.

When you willingly accept the fact that changing a mindset can change a life then real change will come. Keep this idea in mind as you read through this particular article.

For all intents and purposes, when I use the term “fitness” I am referencing a physical well-being, a healthy lifestyle, a purposeful health-conscious mindset. With that being said, we can now explore the ultimate pillar of false fitness. People workout for many reasons but ultimately all those reasons stem from this main pillar of fitness that many people focus on.

Pillar of (false) Fitness:

  1. To look good

That's it. It's as simple as that. That is the reason why a huge percentage of people workout. Now, I'm not naive. I do understand that there is a large part of the population who workout for more wholesome reasons but this is geared for people who fall into the group. This is where the problems arise. This is where people fail. People who workout for this reason will probably not reach their goals or will establish an unhealthy precedent for their own well being.

This is ultimately where the mindset shift has to occur. It’s a deep and wholesome philosophy shift that has to take place in order to win with fitness. The solution is as follows:

When you realize that fitness is a crucial, required aspect of a wholesome fulfilling life then you will win.

Simple. Anything you do or wish to do in life will never be as complete unless you establish a sound game plan towards your health and physical well being .The looking good and the feeling good is just gravy compared to the ultimate fulfillment you will feel and live when you make this adjustment.

I think the hardest thing about going away to college is figuring out how to become an adult. Leaving a household where your parents took care of literally everything (thanks, Mom!) and suddenly becoming your own boss is overwhelming. I feel like I'm doing a pretty good job of being a grown-up, but once in awhile I do something that really makes me feel like I'm #adulting. Twenty-somethings know what I'm talking about.

I went to a small high school, like 120-people-in-my-graduating-class small. It definitely had some good and some bad, and if you also went to a small high school, I’m sure you’ll relate to the things that I went through.

1. If something happens, everyone knows about it

Who hooked up with whom at the party? Yeah, heard about that an hour after it happened. You failed a test? Sorry, saw on Twitter last period. Facebook fight or, God forbid, real fight? It was on half the class’ Snapchat story half an hour ago. No matter what you do, someone will know about it.

Chandler Bing

I'm assuming that we've all heard of the hit 90's TV series, Friends, right? Who hasn't? Admittedly, I had pretty low expectations when I first started binge watching the show on Netflix, but I quickly became addicted.

Without a doubt, Chandler Bing is the most relatable character, and there isn't an episode where I don't find myself thinking, Yup, Iam definitely the Chandler of my friend group.

Working with the public can be a job, in and of itself. Some people are just plain rude for no reason. But regardless of how your day is going, always having to be in the best of moods, or at least act like it... right?

1. When a customer wants to return a product, hands you the receipt, where is printed "ALL SALES ARE FINAL" in all caps.

2. Just because you might be having a bad day, and you're in a crappy mood, doesn't make it okay for you to yell at me or be rude to me. I'm a person with feelings, just like you.

3. People refusing to be put on hold when a customer is standing right in front of you. Oh, how I wish I could just hang up on you!
