Pieces Of Me

There is a beauty guiding us.

Pieces Of Me
Maddie Blank

Recently, I've been trying to figure out what to write - what speaks to me. As I struggled to find inspiration, I looked to my Pages document filled with my thoughts, feelings and ideas about life, love and loss. I decided that I wanted to share a few that have spoken to me over the past couple of years.

1. Excerpt #24

“You have broken through my walls more than anyone else has ever done, and I have told you chapters of my life that no one else has read, the dark and bad parts, and you have continued to stay by my side. You now have those parts of me that I can never take back from you. But you must know this- it is the most real and raw and terrifying experience I have ever felt."

2. Excerpt #31

“You are the light. Without you, there is only darkness."

3. Excerpt #32

“So why do you keep going back to him then?"

“Because he feels like coming home after a long day."

4. Excerpt #35

“But you… You had me fooled. I thought you were so much better, so much more than what you truly are."

Her lip curled, “My mistake."

As she spoke, her voice began to quiver with a quiet rage, like a storm that had been brewing inside for far too long.

“I thought you were capable of loving me, but you made it clear you're not. I can't be with someone like that, I won't."

She stared at him hard and unleashed the words she knew would hurt him the most. “You're a waste of my time."

His face flinched as she continued, “So with that, I am leaving you. And believe me when I say you will search for me in every person you encounter."

Abruptly turning and walking away, she didn't look back at the trail of destruction left in her wake.

5. Excerpt #41

Her fascination with storms

Traced back

To one single reason

Him.

6. Excerpt #46

“My dear, you must realize that you are the final destination and that everyone you encounter along the way guides you home."

7. Excerpt #51

“But isn't that just it? Our lives are filled with the same mistakes, over and over again. We watch people on the screen, trying to find solace in the fact that we are not alone in our faults. We continue to live in this disillusioned world where we believe that with every mistake, we are moving forward. When in reality, it keeps getting repeated without us realizing it."

8. Excerpt #80

“I shouldn't have to fight to keep someone interested in me. I shouldn't have to keep giving someone reasons to stay with me. Who I am should be enough for someone to stay. That's not a relationship, that's a dictatorship."

9. Excerpt #91

I want to be more than just some pretty face or hot body. I want to be more than the thought process that believes that being a model or being famous is the best way to live life. I want to be more than just attractive. I want to be remembered for my kindness, my loyalty, and my unwavering ability to love someone for exactly who they are. I want to be remembered for my accomplishments and my unwavering work ethic. I want to be remembered as a brilliant woman who didn't take no for an answer, and figured out how to be her own damn hero. I want to be successful in the way that people look up to me and say, "That's what I want to be like someday". That is what I will achieve, that is what is to be more.

10. Excerpt #92

The future holds an infinity of possibilities if you let it. I suppose that's the trick though. You. You have to decide what you what to pursue, what you want your life to look like in 10, 15, or 20 years. The only person that is going to get through those years is you. So choose. Choose what your future will look like. Never forget that you always have the power to decide for yourself.

There's a beauty that guides us through this life. Experiencing pain, love, laughter, and raw emotion is how we find ourselves. I hope these excerpts make you feel something the way they did for me.

Being a part of any organization undoubtedly comes with the pitfalls of being grouped into negative stereotypes, and sororities are certainly no exception. Here are the top few things, that I find at least, are some of the most irritating misconceptions that find their way into numerous conversations...

8. "The whole philanthropy thing isn't real, right?"

Well all those fundraisers and marketing should would be a waste then wouldn't they?

11 Things Summer Nannies Can Relate To

There are plenty of obstacles that come when taking care of kids, but it's a very rewarding experience.

As a college student, being a nanny over the summer is both enjoyable and challenging. Underneath the seemingly perfect trips to the pool or countless hours spent playing Monopoly are the obstacles that only nannies will understand. Trading in your valuable summer vacation in return for three months spent with a few children less than half your age may seem unappealing, but so many moments make it rewarding. For my fellow summer nannies out there, I know you can relate.

There are a lot of really easy, common names in the U.S. and while many of those simple names have different spellings, most of the time, pronunciation is not an issue that those people need to worry about. However, others are not as fortunate and often times give up on corrections after a while. We usually give an A+ for effort. So, as you could probably imagine, there are a few struggles with having a name that isn’t technically English. Here are just a few…

Daydreaming

day·dream (ˈdāˌdrēm/): a series of pleasant thoughts that distract one's attention from the present.

Daydreams, the savior of our life in class. Every type of student in the classroom does it at least once, but most cases it is an everyday event, especially in that boring class -- you know the one. But what are we thinking while we are daydreaming?

Puerto Ricans. They are very proud people and whether they were born on the island or born in the United States by Puerto Rican parent(s). It gets even better when they meet another fellow Puerto Rican or Latino in general. You’ll know quickly if they are Puerto Rican whether the flag is printed somewhere on their person or whether they tell you or whether the famous phrase “wepa!” is said.
