As of this month, I am officially 19 years old, and it is crazy that my time as a teenager is almost over. It seems like just yesterday I was a 13-year-old with bright blue braces, obsessed with Doctor Who, and learning how to put on mascara for the first time. But despite the inevitable awkwardness that comes with being 13, I love the girl I was then. And I am especially in love with how I grew and changed into the girl I am now- a 19-year old who forgets to wear her retainers, is obsessed with Rex Orange County, and is learning how to be an adult for the first time. Every year of life means a whole year of learning new things about the world, other people, and yourself, which is just so, so beautiful. So in celebration of my 19 years of life, here's a list of 19 pieces of advice I learned along the way.

1. Talk in silly voices

2. Let yourself daydream more often

3. If you want the coffee, buy the coffee

4. Take more walks, and look at the grass and the trees and the clouds

5. Exfoliate and moisturize

6. Light a candle every now and then

7. Drink more water

8. Let yourself cry

9. Take a cold shower every once in a while

10. Dance alone in your room to your favorite song and sing along as loudly as you can

11. Take more pictures of things that make you happy

12. Stretch

13. Have more conversations with yourself

14. Take a moment to close your eyes and listen to your breath and the world around you

15. Smile at strangers more often

16. Write down your feelings so they take up space on paper instead of in your head

17. Drive with the windows down and the music loud

18. Do more art

19. Be kind

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
