The lights go down and all you hear are screams. Loudly, these screams are hollowing through the acoustics of the venue or arena you are waiting to see one of your favorite bands at and there's a ringing in your ear that, for some reason, you don't mind at all. Fans all pull out their phones next to you to capture the moment the artist will get on stage and completely take over the city for that hour or two. It's electrifying once they appear and you remember that feeling each time it happens again like it never left.
The darkness disappears and the music replaces the silence with sound.
A concert is a place to be heard, but in a way that, ironically, no one could actually hear you. Everyone is screaming the same exact lyrics and dancing to the same beat. There is not any confusion about what you are saying at the top of your lungs because you all showed up for the same act or acts performing right in front of your eyes. Those songs that you heard on the radio and through your phone or laptop for months before are now being played live and although you thought they couldn't sound any better than they did on the record, they somehow do.
Your friend, family member or stranger next to you at the concert you are attending is feeling similar things, but you can connect and relate to the music you are hearing differently. One song that meant everything to you personally and still means the same could be the song the stranger three rows in front of you listens to before they go out on a Friday night. It could be the song that reminds the fan in the last row of the balcony about their graduation or another day they will never forget.
Music connects with people almost as if it is magic. We don't know how or why exactly the idea of a band playing the same notes you heard on their album makes you feel so much more alive, but it does. These performances bring people together and provide everyone there with a community for that duration of time and even afterward. We can thank social media for that.
These gigs are what millions of people look forward to each year. They may be for different artists or bands, but they all revolve around music and a connection with it and the people performing. It's something you'll remember and the place to be for way more reasons than one.
