How To Pick Yourself Up

We all face hard times; here's how to get through them.

Sometimes things happen that, in our mind, can flip our lives upside down: you lose your job, you go through a breakup, you fail a class — whatever level the event was on, there are many things that we can all do to pick ourselves back up and stay on track.

Reconnect With God

Through everything, God is always there. He has a plan for you and He is the one who is leading you through whatever turmoil you are going through. Oftentimes, we can be lead astray from Him, but what better time to reconnect with God than when you feel like your life is falling apart? Start going to church, read the bible and maybe even start a journal to go along with your favorite verses; you can reflect on how verses relate to you, and how you can truly put God's work into your daily life and live the life He intended you to live.

Get Organized

Something that can cause extra, unneeded stress is being unorganized. One of the easiest things you can do to relieve stress, and at least make you feel as though your life is coming together, is to get organized. Begin by cleaning your room or your apartment – or even just your desk or backpack. Feeling like you have a clean environment is so important.

Next, get a calendar and/or a planner so you can lay out your days, and begin to have some structure within your life that you can actually see. You can even go a step further and start keeping track of your health or your life through journals and apps, such as MyFitnessPal. There are so many ways to get organized, and we all have so many aspects of our lives that need to be kept organized, so find some part of your life that makes you feel like it's a mess and tidy it up — it's amazing how much stress this can relieve.

Get Healthy

Becoming healthy is one of the hardest things to do — especially if you have no motivation or support system. But it can be the best thing to ever happen to you. Whatever you're going through, now is the time to focus on you, and the best way to do that is by trying to get healthier and by truly focusing on you, your body and even your mind.

Start prepping meals (it's so much easier to cook one day out of the week and then just reheat your healthy meals — this can keep you away from fast food, too). Get a workout routine going; Make a schedule and stick to it — cardio, weight lifting, yoga, pilates, kickboxing — find what's right for you and just do it. Go see a counselor, even. Everybody needs somebody to talk to at times and mental health is just as important, if not even more important, as your physical health. Just because you see a counselor, doesn't mean something's 'wrong' with you – don't stigmatize it. Sometimes it just means you need someone to be there for you who won't judge you, and who understands what you're going through. You can't always get that from family members or friends, so go talk to somebody.

Get A Pet

Another great way to pick yourself up is by getting yourself a pet. Sure, it's a lot of responsibility to own a dog or even a cat, but responsibility might just be something you need. Not only does it keep you busy, when you could be otherwise sulking in your down time, but it gives you the opportunity to love something greater than yourself — and to be loved in a truly unconditional way. What could be better than the unconditional love (and cuddles) of an animal? Nothing. The answer is nothing.

If you're feeling low and need a pick-me-up, think about these things. Are you organized? Are you healthy? Do you have an animal? Are you as connected with God as you're able to be? If the answer to any of these are no, then you have simple options to improve your happiness.

Oh college, we can’t live with you, but we can’t live without you. It’s a love/hate relationship, really. College is an experience that no one can ever prepare you for, and maybe that’s a good thing. You never really expect any of the things that college encompasses until you are there. College is fun, but don’t have too much fun. C’s get degrees, but they don’t get you into graduate school.

Blair Waldorf

The "Gossip Girl" series may be over, but Blair Waldorf's iconic character lives in our hearts forever. Blair was the queen of the Upper East Side, and a character you either loved or hated. She taught us everything we needed to know about life, love and of course, how to score a Chuck Bass. So the next time you feel a bit lost and are in need of guidance, look no further than to the Queen B herself.

As I spend my Sunday avoiding my homework and other adult responsibilities, I realized that I've watched this series over and over about a million times. Sadly, there isn't a Blair quote I don't know, so I came up with a list of a few favorites. You know you love her...xoxo

Summer: a time (usually) free from school work and a time to relax with your friends and family. Maybe you go on a vacation or maybe you work all summer, but the time off really does help. When you're in college you become super close with so many people it's hard to think that you won't see many of them for three months. But, then you get that text saying, "Hey, clear your schedule next weekend, I'm coming up" and you begin to flip out. Here are the emotions you go through as your best friend makes her trip to your house.

Syllabus Week As Told By Kourtney Kardashian

Feeling Lost During Syllabus Week? You're Not Alone!

Winter break is over, we're all back at our respective colleges, and the first week of classes is underway. This is a little bit how that week tends to go.

The professor starts to go over something more than the syllabus

You get homework assigned on the first day of class

There are multiple group projects on the syllabus

You learn attendance is mandatory and will be taken every class

Professor starts chatting about their personal life and what inspired them to teach this class

Participation is mandatory and you have to play "icebreaker games"

Everybody is going out because its 'syllabus week' but you're laying in bed watching Grey's Anatomy

Looking outside anytime past 8 PM every night of this week

Nobody actually has any idea what's happening this entire week

Syllabus week is over and you realize you actually have to try now...or not

Now it's time to get back into the REAL swing of things. Second semester is really here and we all have to deal with it.
