Pick It Up And Try It

You never know what you can accomplish.

Pick It Up And Try It

This blog will be about my thoughts on the value of trying new things with many references to how I began painting. So, first off, I think you should always try new things. Yes, even if these new things seem to be scary or if you think that you will be terrible at this new thing. In all honesty, you truly never know. Throughout my life, I have tried many new things. I have tried many sports, many classes, instruments, and many other things. Of the many recent things I have tried, one of the most rewarding things to this day was painting. I first started painting spring break of 2015. I had no prior knowledge on painting, and I barely had any tools to paint, all I had was one of those "kid painting sets." You know the ones with like eight colors and one brush with a plastic handle? I would post a picture of it but the picture is too big and would have not looked appropriate in this blog. Hopefully you had one of those at some point in your life. Anyways, back to the intended point, I picked up what I had and painted something.

No, it was not the best. Nothing you do for the first time will be your best. No, it was not going to make me think I was going to be good at it (however, I did not think I was bad either). However, I enjoyed creating something and because of that interest I kept painting and kept creating. For me, it was the idea that I got to being something new and unique to this world that also kept me inclined. I still paint/create to this day. In fact, I have painted over 40 paintings to this day and have enjoyed it more and more as I have continued doing so. If interested in current paintings, take a look at this Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/The-Art-Visionary-277377815944210/.

Picking up something and trying it can, most of the time, does no harm to you. There are much more beneficial reasons why you should try new things than there are harmful reasons. You never know what you will like or love, or on the other hand, you never know what you will absolutely despise until you try it. Having this mindset will not only expand your horizons exponentially, but it will also make you a more open minded individual and we all know that the world could use so many more open minded individuals.

With all of the above being said, I challenge you to pick up something new, it can be anything, and try it. If you become happier or anything better off than you were before you tried something new, I want you to reach out to others and tell them the same thing.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant

There's always chaos in the restaurant business.

10 Signs You Work In A Restaurant
Brisanis

Working in the restaurant industry is possibly the most fundamentally challenging occupation I have ever experienced when it comes to hospitality and customer service. When you go to a five-star restaurant you expect the time of your life, a two hour getaway, a walk through another time period (rustic Italy, France, Spain, etc), or simply a honeymoon undergo. What you don't see are the behind the scenes scut work: carrying trays, polishing glassware and silverware, kitchen chaos, the list is endless. Now, I'm not saying being a host, server, or bartender is the worst thing in the whole wide world, there are definitely worse things. But the fact of the matter is that it isn't always sunshine and rainbows. In the two years that I have spent in restaurant and customer service, I have spoken my share of expletives, yelled at kitchen staff, and dealt with not-so-happy guests. It isn't easy to keep a bright and shiny smile on your face when all you want to do is choke every person who walks near you. Anyone who has spent even two weeks working in a restaurant understands the rigor and stress that comes with it. Restaurant culture is a tiny world in and of itself that operates on its own principles and creates its own society. It even has its own language. The sayings "runner", "corner", and "on a bus" wouldn't make sense to anyone otherwise. My mother and I both work in a restaurant and the best advice I can give someone going out to eat is to treat us like people. Yes...believe it or not we are people, people. Say "please" and "thank you", or stack your cleared plates before a busser gets to the table. Trust me, the gesture goes a lot farther than you may think.

So, if you work in a restaurant, you can relate with the following points. If not, check out how the brain of a restaurant service (or any customer service) worker actually works. See if you can identify any crazy weird habits your friends have a tendency to partake in.

One of the scariest things we will ever face in our life is going to college. Many of us move away to a new town, join new organizations, and make new friends. We are expected to study, have a social life, relationships, maybe work, and be healthy. It seems pretty easy to do, and in high school all we wanted to do was graduate and move on to this next chapter of our lives. If you are in high school, here are some things that you can learn from before you get to college. If you have already been through your freshman year of college, hopefully you can relate to the things I have learned in college.
