When Looking At Old Photos...

It's a good way to pass the time.

This afternoon, I decided to look back at some old photos of myself, and let me tell you, I was not disappointed. There are many thoughts that went through my head as I looked back, such as: "What the heck was I thinking?" "Why did I ever wear that?" and "Is that what I used to look like?" Let me tell you, it's an interesting thing looking at the younger version of yourself. There are some gems you will find. You can sort them into categories if you really try...

1. The ones where you look like a spaz.

There is no doubt that you'll find candid pictures of you doing something really spontaneous. You probably thought you looked really cool doing whatever it was, but looking back, you realize you look completely weird.

2. The ones where you are next to people you don't even know.

You probably knew these people at some point, but now you look at the picture and think, "Who the heck are you people?" You might even look really awkward posing with these people you hardly know. So you get a picture that kind of looks like this.

3. The ones with you and your family all looking really awkward.

Sometimes you all pose for a picture with the intention of getting a nice family photo you can all use for a holiday card. Instead, you get something that resembles this.

4. The ones on your birthday.

I have about 1,000 pictures of me on my birthday throughout the years. I have a bunch where I am blowing out candles, posing with my cake, and smiling with family. Birthday pictures probably make up about 40% of the total photos my family has.

5. The ones where you are making a funny face.

When you were little, making funny faces was the thing to do. Sticking your tongue out, making a monkey face or a fishy face, the possibilities were endless. Anything to get a laugh out of your family and friends.

6. The ones where you were the center of attention.

If you were like me, being the center of attention was very important. You spoke loudly and pulled ridiculous stunts so people would pay attention. It was an art. So you probably have photos of yourself in the center of a group of people, rambling on about who knows what.

7. The ones of your pets.

I have hundreds of photos of my dogs that I took at random times. They are just too cute, how can you resist? Especially when you are young, you want so many pictures of them doing boring things. There is my dog drinking water, there he is sleeping, and there he is peeing. It was definitely not necessary to take all these photos, but they're cute to have.

8. The ones of you eating.

There are always those photos of you when you are younger stuffing your face with food. There's probably food all over you and your parents thought it was super cute.

Looking back at old photos is definitely an interesting thing to do. You might remember certain things or look back with nostalgia. It's also very hilarious, and you might end up laughing for hours. I would suggest getting out some old photos and seeing what you might have!

Taylor Swift in orange dress playing a moss-covered piano on stage with bright lights.

A three-and-a-half-hour runtime. Nine Eras. Eleven outfit changes. Three surprise songs. Zero breaks. One unforgettable evening. In the past century, no other performer has put on an electric performance quite like Taylor Swift, surpassing her fans ‘wildest dreams’. It is the reason supporters keep coming back to her shows each year. Days later, I’m still in awe of the spectacle ‘Miss Americana’ puts on every few days in a new city. And, like one of Taylor’s exes, has me smiling as I reminisce about the memories of the night we spent together.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.
