Why taking a lot of photos can be meaningful

Growing up my mom would document what seemed like every breathe and every step I took. At the time, I thought it was the most annoying thing in the world, but now that I look back on it, I am forever grateful for those pictures of time spent with my friends and family. Pictures are little reminders of special moments in time, and when I see certain pictures, the memories of that moment in time pop into my head and make me smile. Some people criticize those who are always snapping photos, but I say live in the moment, and while you’re in that moment capture it so you can save it forever. The old expression, "Take a picture, it'll last longer," speaks true to the fact that we can't remember everything, and for those moments in time that we may forget, photos are our little reminders.

For me, taking photos is a way of capturing moments in time from my point of view. A plate of food, a city skyline, a sunset, a group photo or a selfie have so many ways to be captured and through my eyes and my lens, I can show the world how I would capture it.

Some people take pictures to keep their family an friends updated on how they are doing through social media. In today's society people may think taking snap chats is stupid, but it can be meaningful because it is another form on communication and a way to say in touch with our friends and family. So although the amount of selfies nowadays can be a bit ridiculous, taking photos of yourself or with others should not be something to be ashamed of, but rather it should be a fun experience to be able to capture a moment in time, to look back on for years to come.

Dear Mom,

You took care of me and my brothers our entire lives and you still continue to! I will not be able to truly grasp all of the hard work that you put into this family until I create my own one day. But, I know that there are plenty of times I forgot to give you a simple thank you or an appreciative smile. I thank you for everything that you have done for me and will continue to do for me. Here are some examples of those times where you had my back and I forgot to pat your back for saving me:

College is hard. As people ages 18-22, we’re just trying to figure out what we’re doing with our lives, our careers, our eating habits, exercise routines, sleep patterns, and other necessities for adult life. We definitely don’t take proper care of ourselves; it’s basically impossible when we have essays, tests and readings due and somehow we’re supposed to eat right, exercise and sleep. We’re doomed to get sick. I have zero experience in science but when I get sick there are certain things I do to make myself better.

Now that it seems “talking” is the new way to date, and will stay that way until another idiotic term is used to describe the people who can’t settle down and just date someone, I feel as if it’s time to go over the unwritten rules of “talking.”

Rule 1. Having feeling without feeling.
