To My Phoebe, From Your Monica: A Year Later

It hasn't been a year in the sense of days, but as we approach 2018, I have a lot to reflect on in life. It's been a year, for sure- I graduated high school, started college, left some jobs and found some jobs, made some friends and lost some too. I look at life a year ago, where I was rehearsing in my senior fall play and so excited for all the opportunities I had, and still have today.

Yet, there's I'd like to talk about in the friendship part of my life. For those of you who regularly read what I write, I wrote about my Phoebe this past February. (Don't worry, we're still best friends.)

She and I really have the same type of friendship like Monica and Phoebe from Friends, almost to a point where it's scary. We think alike, we say the exact same phrase as the exact same time on an almost daily basis. There was a time this past summer where she looked at me and recited the line from The One Where Everyone Finds Out, where Phoebe says, "They don't know we know they know we know." We both almost fell to our knees laughing.

We've been there for each other more than ever. Breakups, fights, offstage drama, the whole nine yards. She bridged for my life back together after a dark time; I crossed and left my past behind, and she's always there, waiting at the other end, standing by me through everything.

She follows her dreams. She has the guts and determination to follow through on the littlest and biggest things. Through it all she's ever so mature, respecting, and authentically herself. She doesn't hide herself from the world. She inspires me to be myself without shame.

She always takes into consideration the feelings of others, and gives the best advice. She is so generous; just like Phoebe, she'd step up to the plate and have triplets if needed. (Well... with serious consideration, but can you blame her?) There isn't a malicious or evil bone in her body. She's a constant praise of light and joy, and even when troubles get to her, we find a way together to look on the bright side.

She loves musical theatre, Supernatural, and anything related to bees. She knows how to make you laugh at any given moment, and there's nothing more enjoyable than singing Heathers the Musical with her at max volume. She is "fearfully and wonderfully made." Through any situation you may face, Pheebs, know you always have a Monica there for you too. I wish you all the happiness in the world, my dear. Love, Mon.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
