The 2016-17 Philadelphia Eagles fall short of a completely disappointing season. The Eagles, devastated by the Chip Kelly regime, were thought to be a large flop in the pre-season. Chip Kelly had single-handedly destroyed the team's talent pool. LeSean McCoy, DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, etc. were all lost as a result of the poor coaching. Running three plays quickly was not an effective scheme for the NFL. Doug Pederson stepped up in the Head Coach position, and with the draft of Carson Wentz, the city felt some excitement. The Philadelphia Eagles started off the season undefeated. This fueled the city's thought that after years and years, this would be the Super Bowl winning team. This dream quickly soured as the Eagles would lose game and game again, but there's always next time for this team. What does this team need?
This team needs to increase the talent. The receiving core is mediocre at best. Jordan Matthews is a great receiver, but a great number 2, not number 1. Nelson Agholor has been a major bust, Josh Huff was cut after an arrest in New Jersey, and there really is no way to win a Super Bowl with such mediocrity. Darren Sproles is an amazing running back, but he is quite old and should not be taken the bulk of the workload for the offense. Overall, the Eagles must import more talent for the team to reach its greatest potential. The age old phrase for this Philadelphia team, better luck next year. If the Eagles can manage to get the talent, next year could be the year behind Carson Wentz.
