Recently, the phenomenon of being a chill girl has taken hold. Chug some beers with the guys. Don't have expectations of anyone you're talking to because you're down for anything, and you have enough confidence in yourself already -- or, whatever.
I’m not buying it. Because, honestly, who really is that chill? If I am putting my time and energy into you, at least some part of me is not going to be chill when I find out you hooked up with someone else, or don't like me. But we can't admit that, right? Because that makes us, as girls, look weak and clingy. And we need to maintain our chill personas.
Well, sorry, but I’m not about that. We need to reinsert meaning into our relationships and our lives. Since when did feeling nothing -- or pretending you don't -- become more normal than showing people that you care? What is so scary about admitting to someone you care about them? It really shouldn't be a big deal. Not saying I wanna get married and have your babies; I just think you're cool and care if you're alive.
But this is why crappy boys get away with being crappy boys. We let them. We're too scared to show any emotions towards someone for fear of being "annoying" or "clingy," so when someone does something we don't like, or uses us, we just let it go. This creates a cycle in which these crappy guys continue to use girls and get away with it because we're all just being chill and going with the flow. And this is where the "crazy" girl gets created. These boys get used to chill girls and no one caring, so when someone actually does say something, and expresses that she cares, she gets labeled a "crazy" girl and "obsessive."
This cycle needs to stop. If you care about someone, tell them. If they treat you like dirt and call you crazy, forget about them. And if you don't care about them, then why are you wasting your time? Be done with being chill, and be done with boys who don’t care about you. It’s not crazy to care about someone, and it’s about time we realized that. And if you wanna chug beers with the guys, be my guest, but don’t let that chill attitude allow you to be taken advantage of.
