A college student needs all the focus they can muster. We have enough temptations and distractions like the internet and a wide world to explore. Yet, I am pretty sure my pets keep me the most distracted and cause me to procrastinate the most. In August of 2015, my family adopted two male kittens.
Basically, these two became attached to me the first day we had them. As time went on, one became much more cuddly the other decided he wasn't a huge fan of cuddling and chose to be pet whenever it was his decision. The cuddly one had become a distraction right away.He loves to be around me all the time. And now, there is almost never a time I am alone. This continued to be a pattern of sleeping in my lap, sleeping beside me at night, and following me to the bathroom.
And most people are in agreement. If your pet is asleep on you, you cannot get up. No exceptions. So having a pet can greatly impact your focus, and determination to get things done. It did for me. The excuse of "Well, I was going to do homework but I can't get up to get my homework because my cat is asleep on me", became very commonplace.
Yet, pets can also be a huge relief to a stressed student. Pets help reduce stress, helps reduce anxiety, and help your cardiovascular health. I would say I can definitely feel these effects whenever my cats are around me.
And, what better distraction can one ask for other than something who loves you and wants nothing more than your attention? I adore these distractions, and so do a lot of my friends. I have had friends come over to just play with my cats because they have no pets of their own and my cats are friendly with everyone. So, I have come to the conclusion that pets are probably the best distraction for someone to have.
