It’s the most joyful scene: everyone gathered around the table, laughing, praying, and eating. Ovens are dinging, pies' aromas are wafting through the cracks of the house, and the anticipation of a feast is enough to bring someone to their knees. There’s bustle but peace simultaneously - it’s a full house, it’s a full heart.
If there were any any day to wear stretchy pants, today would be the day. If there were any day to be thankful, today would be the day.
Then the sun rises on another Friday morning, with turkey day (mostly) left in the past. Cue the daily deadlines, schedules, and clamor that keep us exhausted and wanting more.
Suddenly, our allocated day of thanks seems like a distant memory.
What if Thanksgiving could be more than just a 24-hour period set on the same Thursday each year (minus the mashed potatoes, of course)?
Daily thankfulness changes everything.
Here’s a petition for everyday thankfulness, living in the fullness of grace and purpose. Here’s a petition for understanding that there’s always something that makes our hearts beat a little faster out of complete gratefulness.
It’s not just a petition for daily thanksgiving, but a petition for family dinners, for inviting others in, and for taking on the world with a fresh, selfless attitude.
Let’s do it - let’s make Thanksgiving a daily celebration.
