At some point in time, every teenage girl has watched an episode or two of ‘The Carrie Diaries.’ For those like me who get invested in every show that they watch, I made sure that I didn’t miss a single episode of ‘The Carrie Diaries’ and promptly had it on each week. I scheduled my life around the time that the show would come on, and would be so disappointed if I missed it. I had developed a love for the characters and a desire to live a life that paralleled the storyline. I can honestly say that ‘The Carrie Diaries’ had at least a small part in my choice of major and expected future because it portrayed the ideal life for anyone between the ages of 17 and 20: a young girl living outside of the city with a killer internship at a fashion magazine, all the perks of city life, and not to mention a hot boyfriend. While watching the show, I could picture myself leading a life similar to Carrie’s and only dreamed to have the same opportunities that she was given.
As the series continued, I found myself wanting to know more about the characters, the plot, and how it would eventually lead into ‘Sex and the City.’ However, it had been halfway through the second season and I had read online that the show was going to be cancelled. I was so confused because there were still so many loose ends to the show and I was never going to know what would happen. It’s safe to say that I was beyond bummed that ‘The Carrie Diaries’ was going to be discontinued not only because I wouldn’t have a show to watch during the week, but because I still wanted to know so much more about what was to come in the future for the story and the characters.
It has been nearly three years since the show ended and I still say, to this day, that it should be brought back. Having been home for a week on break, I was intrigued to watch the series again on Netflix just to take up all the free time that I had. When the show was aired normally, I knew it was good, but watching it again, I’m convinced it’s one of the best shows I’ve ever watched and I truly don’t know why it was ever discontinued. I’m sure, actually I know, that there are tons of other girls out there who put their heart into the show when it was on and wished there were just a few more seasons of it to finish out the love story between Carrie and Sebastian or see what kind of life Carrie could make for herself in the city. With this being said, I say that ‘The Carrie Diaries’ should be revived and brought back to television not just for my, or others’, personal enjoyment, but to possibly inspire other younger girls to lead a life like Carrie just as I was. I can honestly say that I owe my desire to work and live in or around the city to ‘The Carrie Diaries’ and just wish that the show could come back to life.
