We all have them. From driving habits to words people mispronounce to subtle noises, they all make your blood boil. And when you tell people about your personal pet peeves, they will either agree with you 110% or look at you like you have two heads. But how reassuring is it though to have someone relate to your pet peeve and say they have the same one? I have an extensive list of pet peeves that only seems to increase.
Here are 12 of my biggest pet peeves(in no particular order):
- Saying the word “chunky”.
Cringe-worthy. Any variation of it. Anything that rhymes with it. It pains me to even write it. You may not think people will say it often but when you hate the word, it seems like you hear it at least 100 times a day. It doesn't have a pleasing sound to it. It simply sounds disgusting. Don’t say it! - Turning to a street from the middle of the lane.
Why? Why can’t you move all the way over either to the right or to the left side to make your turn. You’re slowing down traffic behind you and if the person behind you is like me, they will speed up as the pass you. Don't be that person. Move over as close to the side of the turn you're making. - When someone cuts you off and then slams on their breaks and turns.
The best part is when you look in the rear view mirror, see nobody is behind you, and realize they could have just waited until you passed but NOPE, they feel they are entitled to the road. - Saying “L-I-B-A-R-Y” instead of “L-I-B-R-A-R-Y”.
Probably less relatable to most people but this just irritates be beyond belief. There’s an R in the word, just say it. So many people don't even realize that they aren't pronouncing the R. - Talking with your mouth full.
Disgusting. Why can’t you just swallow your food and then talk. It’s really not that hard. I’ve had conversations with people who have done this and chances are high that pieces of their food will leave their mouths and at that point, I get up and leave. But it doesn't just have to be the person I'm sitting with. It could be the person all the way across the restaurant and I would get irritated. One my biggest pet peeves and too many people do this. - People being too close to you.
Give me my space and I’ll give you your space. Some people don't have a problem with personal space but invading someone’s personal space is just that: invading. For me, it becomes a problem when I’m walking with someone and their arm touches mine. Like no, there is plenty of space. WHY ARE YOU SO CLOSE TO ME?? - The word “smear”.
This word should not exit. Period. End of story. It makes me want to vomit. - The word “puke”
Speaking of vomit, don't say this alternative word for it. Quite honestly, it’s an awful word and should not be said. Yet another word that makes me cringe. - When someone talks over you.
It’s disrespectful. If someone is speaking, don't interrupt them or speak louder than them to have your point heard. You appear rude, arrogant, and entitled by doing so. It doesn't matter if you disagree with the person talking. They have just as much of a right to talk as you do. - When someone thinks they know it all and all proceed to tell you so.
If you're truly knowledgable about something, you don't have to go around to people saying that you are. You don't have to prove your knowledge. The smartest people don't go around telling people that they are smart. Be humble, not cocky. - The way the Kardashians talk.
If you've heard any of them speak, you know exactly what I’m talking about… - People who ask questions during a movie.
I don't know why she turned that corner of the street or why she didn't end up marrying that guy… Why are you asking me? I didn't write the script. If you're going to ask me, at least wait until after the movie. I hate interruptions while watching a movie.
I hope at least some of these are relatable. Otherwise, I just look like a lunatic. Pet peeves are little, little things that drive us nuts and there’s nothing we can do about it. We wish we weren't bothered by these things but we are.
