During high school, I thoroughly enjoyed saying the word "perturbed". Perturbed is an adjective defined as anxious, unsettled, or upset. It's my favorite word in the English Language for numerous reasons. My liking of the word perturbed developed from the way it sounded when it was said.
To my ears, it had a humorous tone to it and when I found out its true definition I was shocked. How could such a funny sounding word actually be something serious and somber? Soon enough, I began saying it often and littered my sentences with the word "perturbed" even in places it didn't belong. I had started saying the word often when I was younger after encountering it in one of the many novels I read as a child. Later on, I discovered in my junior year that I had been pronouncing my favorite word incorrectly my entire life. I had been saying it as pertubed rather than perturbed and when my friend commented on my mistake I was in disbelief. It was shocking to me that I had been pronouncing what I considered my favorite word incorrectly for so long.
Perturbed is my favorite word due to how the humorous ring it has to it causes people to laugh. Since perturbed is defined as upset or unsettled, whenever I see a peer under emotional distress I ask if they are perturbed and nine of out ten times they cheer up and laugh because of me saying perturbed. The word perturbed can be heard and defined in interesting ways and I believe that is why language can have so many beautiful meanings.
