I Tried Customized Shampoo And It Changed My Life

It really is worth it to personalize the products that go on your head.

A few months ago, I started to see ads on Facebook for personalized shampoo and conditioner. You choose what you want the products to do for your hair and they are supposed to make a huge difference. Sounds a little too good to be true, right? Well, I'm here to tell you they actually do work! And they don't cost a fortune either.

The shampoo and conditioner are made by Function of Beauty. As stated on their website, their products are made in the USA and are cruelty-free! Their products are also free of sulfates, parabens, and toxins! These were all big pluses for me, so I decided to give it a try.

You start the process by completing a hair quiz. You choose your hair type, hair structure, and scalp moisture.

You pick five hair goals. Basically what you want the products to do for your hair.

Next, you decided what color you want the shampoo and conditioner to be and how they smell.

You also type in your name and they print it on the bottles!

Then you selected the sizes for the bottles. You can get both shampoo and conditioner, or just one or the other. They have a variety of sizes to choose from. The prices aren't too high in comparison to salon brands. Shipping is also free! I ordered the 16oz bottles of each.

It took around four weeks for my shampoo and conditioner to arrive. I ordered them the first week of December and received them right after Christmas. They did send me an email saying my order would be delayed due to the holidays, which was nice. They even offered to cancel the order in exchange for a gift card for the purchase amount in case these were gifts. I appreciate a company with fantastic customer service.

The shampoo and conditioner came in a pretty teal blue box. I was so excited to see it on my doorstep. The bottles are bigger than I thought and the colors are so vibrant! Also, my name is on the bottle! Shoutout to whoever thought of that!

It also came with a little pamphlet with directions on how to use the shampoo and conditioner, as well as descriptions of each hair goal.

I have been using the Function of Beauty shampoo and conditioner for about three weeks now, and I can honestly say I have seen a difference in my hair. It is way softer and definitely less frizzy. I wash my hair every other day, and I find that I don't really need to use dry shampoo as much on day two (except for my bangs). My ends seem smoother and my hair is very shiny.

I don't find myself using much of the product either. I use two pumps (it comes with the pumps) of shampoo (twice) and two pumps of conditioner. I was worried about it running out fast, but I don't think that will be the case. It also smells really nice; it has a natural, fresh scent that isn't too overpowering. I was a little worried about the mint. I have used mint shampoo before and it had a really strong tingling feeling, but that is not present with these. The shampoo requires a little water for it to lather up, but it lathers up quite a bit, especially during the second wash.

I would definitely recommend trying out Function of Beauty's shampoo and conditioner! Sometimes it is hard to find hair products that will do everything we want, while still being affordable. And if you don't like it, they will reformulate it for you or you can return it for free.

Here's to having a good hair day every day!

For those long nights that turn into mornings when the struggle is real.

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

As this semester wraps up, students can’t help but be stressed about finals. After all, our GPAs depends on these grades! What student isn’t worrying about their finals right now? It’s “goodbye social life, hello library” time from now until the end of finals week.
