To The Person Wearing Headphones And Singing Out Loud

Up until today, I've always found it annoying.

Up until today I have always found the people who sing out loud while they’re listening to their headphones to be slightly annoying. Especially if the singing is not any good. After class today, I came across one of these people. This woman was walking down the sidewalk on campus, belting out a song that I’ve never heard before - or maybe just couldn’t recognize. I can’t say she had an amazing voice, and all of the other students around her were giving her weird looks. As I got a little closer, I realized how happy this woman looked. She wasn’t singing to impress people. She wasn’t singing to annoy people either. She was singing for herself, and I found this to be extremely refreshing. All she could hear was the music, and it looked like she was having a great time. She didn’t care what anyone thought, and she didn’t let anyone get in the way of enjoying her day. She was truly happy because of her own self-fulfilling confidence. All I can hope is that her confidence is contagious, because there are so many people today who could use it. Not the confidence to brag, or to show off, but the confidence to be oneself. There are so many people, including myself, who can learn from this woman that it is okay to be independent, individual, and unique if it means being happy. We do not have to conform to being quiet and keeping to ourselves. We shouldn't be afraid to show our identity, and we shouldn't be afraid to put our voices out there. I'm not saying we all need to start singing and yelling out song lyrics in public - obviously that would get out of hand. But I do know that everyone has their own quirks and interests, and we shouldn't let society hinder our ability to enjoy them. If that means taking the time to do something for yourself, or by yourself, then go for it. I saw today just how happy that can make a person. If more of us can be like the woman I saw singing with her headphones in, I think we'll overall contribute to a much more positive community.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

These powerful lyrics remind us how much good is inside each of us and that sometimes we are too blinded by our imperfections to see the other side of the coin, to see all of that good.

Every Girl Needs To Listen To 'She Used To Be Mine' By Sara Bareilles

The song was sent to me late in the middle of the night. I was still awake enough to plug in my headphones and listen to it immediately. I always did this when my best friend sent me songs, never wasting a moment. She had sent a message with this one too, telling me it reminded her so much of both of us and what we have each been through in the past couple of months.

Zodiac wheel with signs and symbols surrounding a central sun against a starry sky.

What's your sign? It's one of the first questions some of us are asked when approached by someone in a bar, at a party or even when having lunch with some of our friends. Astrology, for centuries, has been one of the largest phenomenons out there. There's a reason why many magazines and newspapers have a horoscope page, and there's also a reason why almost every bookstore or library has a section dedicated completely to astrology. Many of us could just be curious about why some of us act differently than others and whom we will get along with best, and others may just want to see if their sign does, in fact, match their personality.

Being a good person does not depend on your religion or status in life, your race or skin color, political views or culture. It depends on how good you treat others.

We are all born to do something great. Whether that be to grow up and become a doctor and save the lives of thousands of people, run a marathon, win the Noble Peace Prize, or be the greatest mother or father for your own future children one day. Regardless, we are all born with a purpose. But in between birth and death lies a path that life paves for us; a path that we must fill with something that gives our lives meaning.
