To the Person Who Wants to Make a Difference

We don't need any extra money to do it.

Many of us want to make a difference, but feel like there's not much we can do without having large sums of money at our disposal. But the cool thing about the world we live in today is that we get to make a difference and support all kinds of causes in our everyday lives.

Everytime we watch or listen to something, read something online, click on anything or purchase an item, we are casting our vote. Sometimes I find myself annoyed with the top 40 radio station, but as long as I continue to tune in, I am unable to complain. Because the top 40 radio will never go away while thousands of people are listening to their station. Even if every person listening has decided they do not like the music, if they are listening to it, they are voting for it to stay.

When we read online articles about Donald Trump, we are voting for more Donald Trump articles to be written. Public demand always dictates what is being produced and put out there. Producers want money, so they'll continue to make, supply and create what is generating the most revenue.

So how can we really make any kind of difference? We can start by supporting what we truly believe in. We can choose to intake positivity and support organizations that align with our beliefs. Find news websites you really support, and frequent them instead of tuning into the mass media you do not agree with. Choose not to read trashy articles with flashy titles about things you likely don't support.

Even those of us who might not be rolling in cash still purchase things on almost a daily basis. We can begin to think about what we are really supporting with our dollar bills. We can shop at stores that support things we believe in. if recycling is important to you, visit thrift stores more often. If you aren't a fan of big business, shop at local shops and markets. Lots of companies and organizations are already doing great things, and they can continue to grow as we support them along the way.

We cast our votes every day, all day, without realizing it. Vote for what is on your computer screen, what is on your radio, what is on your plate. By consciously thinking about the daily choices we make, we can slowly change our culture and environment into a more positive place-- and we don't need any extra money to do it.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
