Permission Not Granted

No means no

Permission Not Granted

Surprisingly when someone says no, contrary to popular belief, it actually means no. As a society today we are faced with the “she deserved it” claims, the “it was what she was wearing, she was basically asking for it” and the absolute classic “she was drunk”. These are excuses that people are making for themselves and it’s amazing that it’s always her fault but when does it become the guys fault?

When she is drunk and falling all over the place and all over you, that does not always mean yes. Unless the word “yes” comes out of her mouth while there is no alcohol in her system, any other answer is no. Only a sober yes is a yes!! Most people when intoxicated think everything is a good idea. I’m sure if she said “I’m going to go run in the middle of traffic” you would stop her. So why shouldn’t you stop when she says no.

When she is wearing shorts that may be shorter than normal, that does not give you permission to take them off. It does mean she asked for it. It does give you permission to twist her words because although she never said no, she never said yes.

When she is half asleep and laying in her bed, that does not give you permission to undress her because she couldn’t answer. This doesn’t give you permission because she could not fight back.

If you have known her for years and you knew that she wanted it before, that does not mean she wants it now

When she says no because she has a boyfriend, that does not give you permission to break the relationship for them. It does not give you permission to be a “homewrecker” because they are fighting one day.

When she is sad and vulnerable because she had a bad week that by no means give you permission to take advantage of her. It does not give you permission to guilt her into coming over because she needs someone she can talk to and you might be the only one listening… but not for the right reasons.

It can happen anywhere to anyone and its never talked about. This is the hidden truth, girls do say no and boys do not always listen. Respect her and treat her like she matters because she actually does. No one deserves to go unheard.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
