I am here to tell all you other messy people out there that, it is OK. So what that the tervis tumbler on your bedside table has been there for three weeks, at least there’s nothing in it! So what if you haven’t seen your floor in a while due to all the clothes piled on it. Maybe there’s a cluster of 17 empty water bottles casually thrown all over the room, at least it’s tolerable!
Being a little messy isn’t hurting anyone! So maybe other people don’t want to go in your room, and maybe you step on something sharp everyone once in a while, there’s nothing to be ashamed of! Since half the reason your room is messy in the first place is most likely because you’re lazy, like me, and paying for a maid service is not exactly in a college student’s budget, just embrace the mess and learn to live with it.
1. Whenever people ask you to hang out, they never want to hang out in your room.
Perks of this is that you never actually have to clean up for anyone.
2. Everything is most likely in reaching distance from your bed.
Being lazy goes hand in hand with being messy. If you’re in bed and need a sweatshirt, most likely there is one just thrown right next to your bed; how handy!
3. At least now people will know that you don’t have your life together.
People won’t walk into your room and think to themselves, “Hey, wow, look at that organization. She has it all together”. They’ll just think, “Ew”. No false pretenses here. It is what it is, and I am who I am.
4. The moment you do have a clean room, the feeling of accomplishment will be 400 times higher.
Once your room is finally clean, after the some odd months of not having seen the floor, you feel like an adult. The kind of adult who wakes up naturally at six am just to make coffee and read the paper. When this rare occurrence happens, enjoy being able to walk through your room without stepping on clothes, or whatever else may be there. Maybe even snap a few pictures.
5. All of your clothes are usually on display… all over your floor.
But hey, it’s just easier to find them. If you’re ever running late, finding an outfit is super easy with it just being thrown on the floor. Just pick up a handful of clothes on your way out. You are bound to find SOMETHING to wear.
6. There’s always something there that you forgot about that can help with your procrastination.
You have a six-page paper to write? Oh look my Tamagachi is just sitting randomly on my desk that I haven’t started my paper but I can’t ignore the Tamagachi now... Well, I better play with it.
7. Want to procrastinate even more? Try cleaning!
This is a great excuse for putting off that six-page paper even more. You can’t do your homework when your room isn’t clean, you just can’t.
8. Want to get out of anything?
Friend trying to hang out and you just aren’t feeling it? “Oh, sorry I have to clean my room.” That boy you’ve been talking to who’s cuter in his tinder profile than in person,
“sorry you can’t sleep over my room is a biological hazard”.
9. Cleaning can be therapeutic.
If you’re having a stressful day, cleaning is one of the best things to do. Cleaning is like slowly getting a small part of your life together. You always feel so good when you sit in a freshly made bed. The best part about this is you get to mess it all up again!
10. You always find random things.
You always find random little things in your room that you never even knew you lost. Those cute sunglasses that you wore three years ago, oh there they are under a pile of clothes and a bag of Tostitos.
11. You’re not messy, you’re just creative
Or you can just keep telling yourself that, I know I will.
12. You know who your true friends are.
Whoever actually goes in your room, keep them. They are your true friends if they are willing to put up with your mess.
13. Actually being clean has its perks too BUT…
My advice to you is, be messy if you want to be messy and be clean if you want to be clean.
In the end, it wouldn't have mattered how clean or messy your room was anyways. The only things that matter are if you are happy, and you have friends who still are willing to brave the mess.
