I have the smallest immediate family possible; it's just my mom, my dad, and me. When I tell people that I'm an only child, they always respond with, "You're so lucky! I wish I was an only child!" and they totally have it right. Even though sometimes I wish I had a little sister to give my old clothes to or an older brother to protect me, being an only child definitely has its perks, and I wouldn't have it any other way. So, here are the best things that come with being an only child:
1. You get way more presents than anyone else during the holidays.
2. When it comes time to drive, your car is your own, and you're not obligated to drive anyone around.
3. You never have to share anything.
4. You get all of the attention (as long as the dog isn't home).
5. The pictures around your house are basically a shrine of your life.
6. You get more spending money.
7. It's way easier to convince your parents to get you something you want.
8. Your parents are super proud of everything you do because they don't have another kid to do it better.
9. Dinner is centered around what you want to eat.
10. Your parents are always so excited to see you when you come home for Thanksgiving/Winter/Spring/Summer Break.
11. You learn independence since you don't have other siblings to rely on (or blame).
12. There's no siblings to compare you to, so you're number one by default.
13. Most importantly, you get to keep your amazing parents all to yourself (as selfish as that sounds).
I have two of the funniest, craziest, most loving parents in the whole world, and I'm so happy that I don't have to share them with anyone. Maybe being an only child can get lonely sometimes, but I wouldn't have it any other way.
