When it was time to decide on colleges, my twin brother and I debated whether or not we wanted to attend the same school. In high school, we were always associated with one another. Teachers would compare us and our friend groups would overlap. When we both fell in love with the same school, we were apprehensive about attending together. However, as I sit across from him right now typing this article, I can honestly say that going to the same school as my twin brother was one of the best decisions I have ever made. It's a true blessing. Here's a few reasons why:
1. Extra homework help
I know I can always rely on my brother to help me out when I am confused with my homework. Whether it's a question about how to restart my laptop or the quantitative theory, I know I can always count on my brother to be there for me.
2. I never have to eat alone
I always have someone to eat with any time of the day! Even if he isn't hungry, I know he would be more than willing to just keep me company so I never have to be eating alone in the corner at the dining hall.
3. Seeing him brightens my day
It's really cool to just be walking around campus and run into my brother. It's nice to see such a familiar face on campus. It actually really does make my day.
4. Sharing notes
Although we do not have the same classes this semester, we are going to take similar courses since we have similar majors, so we are preparing to swap notebooks eventually. And we can re-use each other's textbooks, so bonus!
5. A sense of home/ familiarity on campus
It's comforting to have a little piece of home away from home. When I get homesick, I know my brother is only a five minute walk away. He's always there to listen to my annoying stories and offer me that older brotherly advice. (even though he is only a minute older!!!) It's nice to always have him here.
A concern we both had was that we thought we would see each other too often on campus. Weirdly enough, I feel like I don't see him enough! We have only accidentally run into each other several times, otherwise we plan to meet and catch up. We live in different halls and have different classes with different peers with different professors so I don't see him too often at all.
I am so grateful and happy to attend the same school as my brother. It's a blessing and an awesome experience. I would not want it any other way. I get to watch my brother grow into his own person and become the successful person I always knew he would be. So shout out to Zayn, keep working hard! I love you.
