I didn't realize how many perks there were of going to an all-girls school until after I graduated. I literally miss my high school so much! I made a list of things I loved and did't appreciate enough when I was in high school!
1. Uniforms
One of the biggest blessings because I could wake up late, grab my skirt and polo and run out the door. I had an everyday uniform, a Wednesday uniform (only for Juniors and Seniors), and a mass uniform. I never worried about what I was going to wear the next day and I looked basically the same every picture day.
2. Makeup
What's makeup? In school, I only ever wore bottom liner because I had no reason to strut around with a full face of makeup nor did I have the time in the mornings to get ready! Makeup was no big deal, after graduating I learned that it's not socially acceptable to look like a bum 24/7.
3. Ponytails and messy buns
If anyone could rock a ponytail or messy bun on the daily, it was us! Not gonna lie, we looked pretty great since most of us were in sync with the hairstyles.
4. Five goals
My high school taught me a lot and helped me shape myself as a person as it enforced these five goals:
- A personal and active faith in God
- A deep respect for intellectual values
- A social awareness which impels to action
- The building of community as a Christian value
- Personal growth in an atmosphere of wise freedom
These rules taught me how to be a better person and what helps one grow as a person throughout their lives. I grew to learn a lot and will forever cherish the 5 goals as a Sacred Heart sister forever.
5. 6th goal
We created a 6th goal in school, FOOD! We were literally always eating. I don't think it's possible to explain how many bake sales, parties, cultural events, and community buildings events there were and how much food was involved.
6. Traditions
As a Sacred Heart all girls school, there were always events being planned as we were constantly trying to have fun. Traditions included Conge, Fishinish, Feast Wishes, community day, field day, coffeehouse and tons more! It helped us connect with students from various other grades and it was pretty easy considering how small our school actually was. Fishinish was special because seniors got to pick freshmen and be their mentors as they got to know each other throughout a week full of events. Conge was a day planned by the seniors to basically surprise the entire school with a day full of fun and no classes! The list goes on and on and I miss those days more than I thought I would.
7. Sisterhood
Last but not least, I made friends that I will forever cherish. As a member of a very small class, made up of only 41 girls, I was able to get to know every girl in my grade. Whether we were close or not, we all knew each other plenty well and were always there for one another. I'm lucky to have met all the great people in my high school career including my teachers and peers and wish the best to them all!
Thank you, Duchesne for all that you taught me. Love and miss you!
