I recently went back to the Los Angeles area and started to miss my small town life. I quickly started to realize how much I liked living in a small town and to appreciate how much it has to offer although it's small.
Small things like:
1. No traffic.
Coming home from college I just got adjusted to how nice it is to go places and being able to get there fast. Other than it taking 30-minutes plus to a destination that's only 15-minutes away. But because the traffic it adds a few more minutes.
2. It's safe.
In the small town that I live in people feel so safe that they leave their garages open and their front doors when they're home. Most people walk everywhere. Whether it's to the store, the park or just to go to a friend's house.
3. It's quiet.
In the city, all people hear are cars honking and sirens. The most I hear in the small town that I live in is the ice cream truck, which is such a big difference than living in the city where it's constant noise. It's a nice break coming home to peace and quiet.
4. You can walk or bike anywhere.
When I first moved to my small town, I was not happy when my parents told me to walk places instead of taking the car into town. And now I see why. There's really no need to drive a car in town. I've walked to my sister's school and home from work, and, although it was new to me, I really enjoyed it.
5. Everyone knows everyone.
Although I may not know everyone my parents do, it's really cool to go places and then they bump into people that my parents once play sports with or went to school with.
I believe the best thing about living in a small town is the fact that it's small. I know to some people they don't like small places because they want to adventure out to something that's unfamiliar to them, or they are just tired of seeing the same things everyday. But to me, I love going to work and seeing people I know and going to into the grocery store and seeing a family member.
