The great old midwest

Perks Of Life In The Midwest

I have never lived anywhere else but after living in the wonderful midwest, I would not choose to live anywhere else. I feel as though I have been very lucky to live where I do and be able to enjoy the things I do.

One of the many perks I have enjoyed is being able to have a cabin. I am able to leave my life in the city and run away for a little bit to my wonderful place on the lake. I feel so lucky to be able to escape for a bit and enjoy the sun and the lake. Being at my cabin is nothing like being at home. It is completely relaxing and I feel like I have nothing to worry about. I love being able to smell campfires and enjoy the sounds of the water and the boats on the water, instead of hearing sirens as they pass by my window. We don't have a TV at my cabin so we are forced to spend some time together and it's really nice. I love laughing with my family about the dumbest things like we haven't laughed in a while. I will never get sick of looking at the cheesy footstools that are covered in farm animals or the cheesy artwork we have hanging in the cabin. I will never get sick of hearing the screen doors opening and closing. I will never get sick of being able to sit on my dock when it's dark and listen to the loons calling to each other.

This one is a perk of living in Minnesota. Since Minnesota is the Land of 10,000 lakes, there are many beaches. I feel lucky to be able to go enjoy a lake whenever I have free time. The lakes are so pretty and so much fun to spend time with family. There are so many places to go and enjoy. We can go kayaking, swimming, or just laying on the beach.

People in the midwest are some of the nicest people I've met. Everyone is always saying hello when you walk past them or greeting each other somehow. People love to wave at each other from a distance and everyone loves to talk to each other.

I will never get over how wonderful a Minnesota accent is. I will never get enough of being told how Minnesotan I sound. This is okay with me because I am so proud to be from Minnesota. I absolutely love life in Minnesota. Even if I am getting made fun of, I still laugh it off because I love my small hint of an accent when I say certain words.

I will forever love the life I have lived and continue to enjoy every day. The midwest is special. You just have to let yourself enjoy it.

No Matter How Challenging School Gets, You Have To Put Your Health First — A Degree Won't Mean Anything If You're Dead

Some of the best advice I've ever received was from my social studies teacher in sophomore year of high school. He stated, "If you don't know it at midnight, you're not going to know it for the 8 a.m. exam, so get some sleep."

It's such a simple piece of advice, but it holds so much accuracy and it's something that the majority of college students need to hear and listen to. "All-nighters" are a commonality on college campuses in order to cram in studying for an exam that is typically the next day.

girl with a hat

This is for the girls who have dealt with an emotionally, mentally, physically or verbally abusive father.

The ones who have grown up with a false lens of what love is and how relationships should be. The ones who have cried themselves to sleep wondering why he hurts you and your family so much. This is for all the girls who fall in love with broken boys that carry baggage bigger than their own, thinking it's their job to heal them because you watched your mother do the same.

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

Because we made it, and because high school seniors deserve to know what they're getting themselves into

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!
