5 Perks of Going To College In A Small Town

A lot of people dream about going to big colleges, in a big city. I said no thank you, and went to a small town. As I get ready to start senior year in the fall, I have no regrets about not going to a big city school. I love my small town school, and here's why you should too.

1. The community loves your school, every shop, restaurant, even the gas stations proudly fly the school flag. They also attend home games for every athletic event. If you're really lucky, some of the local places give student discounts.

2. Everyone will know who you are. You will be remembered, whether it be your barista at the local coffee shop or your Thursday night bartender, your name and order will be remembered.

3. There will never any traffic. Big schools in big cities have lots of busy roads, filled with constant backups, especially on game days. I prefer my train town with one main road and the only traffic jam is caused by a train.

4. There is always something to do. Because the town is so small the community loves to come together for festivals, carnivals, etc., small town people love the camaraderie, especially feeding the poor hungry college students.

5. The town becomes your home away from home. You learn everything about the little town pretty quickly, and it invites you in as one of its own. Everyone is welcome in small town USA.

Everyone who is in college right now, or has ever been, knows the struggle of pulling in the strings at the last second. It seems impossible, and you have to do a LOT of things in order to assure your future for the next semester.

April Ludgate, historically, is a very annoyed person, and she doesn't hide it. Of all the times that I binged and re-binged "Parks and Rec," her attitude relates more and more to me.

To The Cheerful Person On Their Rainy Days, You Are Valid

The world is not always sunshine and rainbows, and you do not have to be, either.

Ask friends of mine to name a quality about me, and one a lot them will point out the fact that I am almost always smiling. I like to laugh and smile -- not to quote Buddy the Elf in April, but smiling is my favorite! It is probably my favorite go-to expression. However, what a lot of people do not see is that I have my down days. I have days when smiling and laughing is a real struggle, or when I have so much on my plate that going out of my way to behappy takes more effort than I have stored in me. Be it a symptom of college and growing up or a facet of life, I cannot always be content.
