So you're a going to college as an older student; whether it's your first time, you're going back, transferring, or whatever other cases there may be the point is- you're older. It doesn't matter if you're slightly older than your peers or you could be a lot of their grandparents (if that's the case, congratulations on going back!). you probably feel a little weird about it, nervous even? That's fine, and normal honestly!
Being older makes for a different university experience inside and outside of the classroom: which isn't a bad thing! That also means you still have a slight upper hand over those kiddos.
1. You probably don't feel the need to go to every party thrown. You've been there and done that. You know having a night in with your favorite drink and marathoning Netflix can be just as exciting, if not more.
2. You're bringing life experience to the classroom. That alone can really give you an extra boost. You've been around the block, and probably have a better handle on the whole "school life".
3. Chances are you're at that school now because you know exactly what you want and can see the bigger picture. You're probably not going to waste time changing majors because you might've already gone through that self-discovery point in your life. There's nothing wrong with knowing what you want!
4. You have a better handle on prioritizing and focusing. Everyone gets better at this as they get older. Whatever the reasons maybe, you know what you need to do to get shit done without it disrupting your life outside of school (too much). Nothing can break your determination now!
5. You're probably a great multitasker! As a non-traditional student, you might be juggling a family, work, school, friends, and whatever else might be on your plate. Which means, it'll take a bit more before you have a meltdown. Of course, we all have our breaking points so take care of yourself!
So, be proud to be a non-traditional student! You're all in college for the same reason, age doesn't mean a thing. Embrace it!
