Congrats biddies! You're officially part of Greek life and have 150+ names to learn and sisters to meet. It's overwhelming, but exciting nonetheless. Here are a few things that you can expect and look forward to as a new member to the srat life.
Overwhelming Popularity
You're getting more friend requests and wall posts than can be kept track of welcoming you and using phrases that do not yet hold any significance to you. ("What is this pi love you speak of? And why does everyone keep saying boom boom?") Your Instagram and profile picture success will increase exponentially, and your older brother will most likely make fun of you, but he's just jealous. Just bask in the glory of the fame.
Big Sis Week
T-shirts, and baked goods, and fun, oh my! This week is dedicated to your big just completely spoiling you. This kind of attention probably hasn't been given to you since you were like, five, so enjoy it while you can. Pro tip: Clean out half the clothes and posters that you currently have in your room. Trust me, all that space will be needed once your big bombards you with more shirts and crafts than it seems possible to own. No need to go shopping for spring clothes, because with all the new gear, you’ll be able to wear your letters for a month straight without doing laundry. You'll be passing on the favor soon, so keep track of it all!
Getting a Big
On a similar note, having a big is one of the best friendships you'll form. They love you unconditionally before they even know you and will be the big sister you've always wanted. Personally, my big is one of the coolest people I know — and (usually) a great role model for me. Embrace your big, physically and figuratively, and take advantage of them spoiling you this semester.
Fanny packs
They are socially acceptable to rock on multiple occasions. They're extremely underrated and convenient to use, so appreciate this time.
More Social Events
You’ll have more pre-games and social events to keep track of. Whether it’s movie nights, cookie baking, bowling, lunch dates, apartment parties, etc. And you thought you were busy last semester ...
Older Friends Equals Cars
Can you say chipotle? I rest my case.
More Friends, More Fun
You have so many people to meet, but you also have the potential to meet your new best friend in the upcoming semester. Plus, you can meet their friends and they can meet yours. You do the math — SO many more friends.
The House
Whether it's for a late night pee break, taking power naps between classes, or just a place to hang out when bored, the sorority house is a great home base for all the shenanigans your little heart desires. You might as well get comfortable there, because you'll spend excessive amounts of time there in the upcoming years and even live there if you're lucky.
Being the youngest is definitely fun and a great experience, so enjoy it while you can! Before you know it, you'll be the big and paying forward all the love and attention given to you.
