The Perks of Being Home in the Summer

Summertime is quickly approaching, and with it come the benefits of spending time at home with family and friends.

The Perks of Being Home in the Summer

While it is nice to have freedom away at school, it is also nice to go home and spend time with your family and friends. Family beach trips, spontaneous road trips with your friends, and cookouts on the back porch are where the best memories are made. Here are a few more perks that come with being home for the summer:

1. Free Food

Eventually the campus-dining card runs out of money, leaving the poor, starving college student to send mom and dad an email full of love with a request for a few extra dollars. After all, food is necessary to thrive and make good grades.

2. Parent's Funding

When you go home, you no longer have to go out and buy your own groceries. Your parents let you wash laundry for free, eliminating the need for your stash of quarters. They also take you out for nice dinners, and who knows? Maybe they will even treat you to a nice shopping spree.

3. Seeing Your Best Friends

After high school, you and your best friends start new chapters in your lives, which will inevitably lead you to different schools. It can be hard to find time to visit each other during the school year between sporting events and test weeks. It is always nice to know your friend is just a short trip down the road in the summertime.

4. No School Work

Unless you are taking summer classes, there is no schoolwork to be done. There is no stressing out over the next exam, and no panicking about your final research paper for English class. The pool is calling your name, which means it is time to kick back and relax.

5. Internship Experiences in New Places

Interning in a new city over the summer leads to an abundance of opportunities. It gives you the chance to make new connections, explore new places, and it helps you learn more about your chosen career path.

6. Time with Family

Families come to visit their students while they are away at school, but it is nice to spend some time at home. Summertime cookouts and family movie nights are greats ways to reminisce, and have more quality time together. Believe it or not, parents love having us home again!

7. Road Trips

Do you want to see new places? Hop in the car and hit the road! Go visit famous landmarks around the country, or take a trip to a famous city in your home state. There are always adventures to be had, and new places to explore.

You can always find something to do in the summer. Do not waste it by staying at home on the couch in front of the TV. Go out, see the world, spend time with friends, and enjoy the time you have with your family!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
