Perks of Being Home
The Telegraph

When the school year has finally coming to a close students always have to worry about finals and the stress that comes along with it. It is a time where many students are in the mindset of being so excited to come home, but at the same time do not want to leave. However, being home is simply the best because of all the perks it has!

1. Homemade Food! There is nothing like good quality food. It is something you actually appreciate once you go to college and eat their disgusting cafeteria food. I mean, even the pasta isn’t even good...how can you mess up pasta?!

2. Your Bed. Compared to the bed in your dorm room, your bed is like sleeping on a cloud. Your sleeping schedule may be all messed up from finals but once you lay down on your bed at home, you sleep like a baby - no matter the time - because it is SO comfortable.

3. Car Privileges. If you can’t bring a car to school or your parents won’t let you, this is definitely another perk of being home. You can get in your car anytime you want when you are home because it is readily available to you. There is no better feeling than driving down the road blaring the new music you got and singing without a care in the world.

4. Being with your friends. Nothing makes you more happy than seeing your friends who you haven’t seen in a long time. Even though you can keep in touch with them through texting, Facetime and all forms of social media, there is nothing like being able to pick up where you all left off and hangout. Not to mention, they can fill you in on all the latest drama in town for you to figure out that nothing has changed since you left.

5. Not having to worry about school. In the past, we would sometimes come home, but still had to submit an essay or study for an exam. Coming home for the summer is the best because no one has to worry about school work. Although we do have to worry about actual work, worrying about our exams or essays is no longer in the cards.

6. Making Money!! I mean seriously, we are all so broke it’s not even something to laugh about. We spent all our money this year on clothes we did not need at all and even more on food in a sad attempt to escape the cafeteria food. We just need money in our pockets…

7. Being with your family. This is the greatest perk of all because you finally get to be with your family and not have a conversation with them over the phone. You can finally be at ease and sit at the kitchen table, eat with your family and catch up on all the latest news in everyone’s lives.

These perks are the reason you are reminded that you love being home. It is true when they say home is where the heart it. Being away at school is fun in all, but nothing can replace the memories and bonds you created at home. School helps you step outside your comfort zone for awhile, but when you come home you are able to return back to that comfort zone, even if it is just for a little bit.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate
Mental Floss

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It's the most wonderful time of the year! Christmas is one of my personal favorite holidays because of the Christmas traditions my family upholds generation after generation. After talking to a few of my friends at college, I realized that a lot of them don't really have "Christmas traditions" in their family, and I want to help change that. Here's a list of Christmas traditions that my family does, and anyone can incorporate into their family as well!

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
