9 Things for a Perfect Sunday

Let the relaxation commence!

9 Things for a Perfect Sunday

There's something about Sundays that eclipses any other day of the week. Perhaps it's the day of recuperation after a long week of work and a long weekend of fun. Maybe it's more about the preparation of the long week ahead rather than recuperation. Whatever Sunday may mean to you, there are several things that can make any Sunday a perfect day.

1. Puzzles

Puzzles usually start out as a fun, mindless task to fill the seemingly endless hours of a Sunday. Once you really get into it you realize puzzles are exactly that--puzzling. The similar shades and vast amounts of the same color over a large portion of the picture turns mindless fun into an exercise. At the same time, it's a welcomed form of exercise for your brain. It's a switch from the monotonous tasks of the scheduled work week, and a step up from the mindless chit chat over the course of the weekend.

2. Yoga

You can do it alone, or you can do it with a class. Either way, yoga is a holistic way of winding down if that's what your Sundays are best for. You can buy yoga videos and bend away in the comfort of your own home if you'd like. Take the time to truly listen to your breathing, it may be the only time during the week when it's not frantic or pacing.

3. Television

Often times we don't have much time to sit down and enjoy what's on the screen. Either we don't get to watch it because we're so busy going going going, or we aren't focused on anything displayed in front of us because our mind keeps going going going. Take Sunday to watch a movie with your family, watch that documentary you've been dying to see, or just listen to the news to catch yourself up to speed with what's happened over the week.

4. Snacks

It doesn't matter if they're healthy snacks or sugary junk food snacks. You've spent all week following a diet plan, or you've cooked almost every night of your life, you deserve a snack. Sunday meals with all of the family together is perfect, but save some room for a little light snacking. My personal favorite is some form of cookie, or sometimes bread itself (I'm a fellow carb junkie). Let Sunday be a "No Remorse" day. You'll work it off during the week ahead.

5. Comfy clothes

These can be anything you want them to be; sweats, pajamas, shorts... nude. The fact of the matter is you have to wear an acquired attire all week so you may appear like a normal functioning member of this society. Therefore, Sunday is the day to be a non-functioning member of society. You don't want to wear pants? No one's going to tell you that you can't. You decided you're going to the store with no bra? Let the girls say hello to the world for just a moment. It is your Sunday and you do what you want with it.

6. A Book

If we're being completely honest with ourselves, we probably read a total of two chapters of a book throughout the week. If you're able to read more than that without falling asleep, kudos to you can you please teach me your ways? Fill the longest hours of Sunday with an amazing book you've been waiting to read, or one you've already read before. Sundays are a book lover's favorite day of the week. It's when most of the heavy lifting gets done.

7. Cards and other games

A little competitive game of Go Fish never harmed anyone, unless a physical fight broke out because Uncle Larry wouldn't give up his King. There's are plenty of exciting games that you can play with family and friends. Figure out who murdered the millionaire in a game of Clue (or four games if you get really into it), shout out random objects trying to guess your partner's charade, learn to play spades! Hasbro games is not a large company for no reason, they know what Sundays are about.

8. Naps

If we're all being completely honest it's a challenge getting eight hours of sleep a night. Even if you're physically able to you may not get the full amount of rest because of REM sleep. When you start to doze off, let yourself. There's nothing wrong with it. You don't nap any other time during the week, unless you snuck one in and it probably wasn't as great as a Sunday nap. Sunday naps are exactly what Sundays are about; preparation and recuperation.

9. Sports

Whether it's Football Sunday or Nascar day, sports are best watched on Sundays. There's plenty of time to enjoy them with no rush to complete some task or chore. Commercial breaks are perfect for refilling snacks and beverages while game time is focus time. It's a focus that stimulates you for the upcoming work week and even gives you something to chat about with others too.

Happy Sunday to you!

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
