Perfect For The Summer: Lighten Your Hair With A Simple DIY Mask
Make Her up

So you find yourself wanting a lighter hair look, but are frightened by the thought of damaging it with the use of chemicals? Me too, especially as summer is upon us an a lighter hair color just seems so right!

Seasons change and hair should too. I find myself wanting to change my hair color at the beginning of every season. Not only is that not a budget possibility, but the idea of bleaching my natural, brunette hair frightens me. I was one of many that lived the "salon" nightmare-- There was a time in which my hair turned green at a salon. I always said that if I found the way to lighten it without damaging it I would share it. After dying my hair I felt that it was not the same in texture, color and length. I started to use oils to keep my hair from frizzing and getting tangled. This homemade hair mask helps with hair texture, color-- growth and hair styling, and I can tell you from personal experience that it is not some spam ad or health fad, but it legitimately works.

You will need the following items:

1.Lemon Juice

2.Chamomile Tea

3.Natural/Raw Honey

4.Conditioner

5. Hair Clips (optional)

6. Plastic processing cap

Let's Get Started!

You can use any container available to you or buy a hair dye bowl if you prefer.

Step 1: Lemon Juice

Depending on how thick and long your hair is you will want to use about 2 oz of lemon juice. The lemon juice works as a natural lightener.

Step 2: The Chamomile Tea

Place the tea bag in the lemon juice and let it sit for about a minute. After it has soaked completely squeeze the bag to release any juice that was soaked up and continue to the next step. The Chamomile helps with the lightening as it has natural chemicals.

Step 3: Raw Honey

Pour about 3 oz of raw honey (1 more oz than what you used in lemon juice). Because lemon juice is acidic you want to counteract that with the honey. The honey aids with the texture of your hair while giving it a lighter look. This is found at your local grocery store or whole foods. I have used many brands and learned that as long as it is raw honey it will work.

Step 4: The Conditioner

The conditioner is based on judgment. Pour the amount that you feel makes the honey more applicable. You will notice that the honey becomes more manageable after mixing in your everyday conditioner. The conditioner helps make the mask easier to apply as well as helps it become a natural deep conditioner. Remember that any conditioner will work.

Now that the hard part is over you are ready to apply the Mask.

You can stir the mask by using your hand or as I like to use, a popsicle stick. You want to wear a loose, old, T-shirt because the mask will get on your clothing. You can thoroughly apply the mask with your hand or a dye brush. Make sure that you section your hair as much as possible in order to evenly apply the mask. The hair clips may be used to section the hair if you find it difficult to keep your hair sectioned.

Once you have applied the mask you want to make two braids, (one on each side), this promotes hair growth as well as keeps the hair inside of the plastic processing cap. The cap will go over your hair while the mask processes. This mask can be left for 30 minutes to overnight. I use this mask 2 times a week and leave it on overnight. This may be uncomfortable, but the results are worth it. Wash out, dry-- and enjoy!

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
