Avocados are a wonderful superfood that has increased in popularity and sadly, in price. I mean seriously, getting guac on the side at any restaurant has doubled in price, it's ridiculous! Since I fell in love with guac years ago, I have been refining this recipe and it’s storage method so I can have whenever I want.
This recipe is perfect because it's simple, easy, and totally adaptable. If you want it spicy, you can add more jalapeno, if you want it zingy, add some more lime in conjunction with a bit of red pepper and more salt.
This recipe is a ratio and makes a very basic, typical guacamole. So you can double, triple, and quadruple to your heart’s desire! The ability to add and subtract from this recipe makes it even better than you think.
So…here we go!
You’re going to need:
- 1 avocado
- ¼ a tomato (very finely chopped)
- ¼ cup cilantro (very finely chopped)
- ½ jalapeno (very finely chopped)
- ⅛ white onion (very finely chopped)
- Pinch of salt
- ½ tsp lime juice
- Pinch of pepper
How to combine your ingredients:
- Pre-chop the tomato, cilantro, jalapeno, and white onion.
- Cut your avocado in half and take the core out.
- Grid slice your avocado inside its peel.
- Take a spoon and scoop the diced avocado into a small/med bowl.
- Mash your avocado to your preferred consistency. (Note: you will be mixing all of the ingredients into the avocado mix, so make it a bit more lumpy than you like because as you add the ingredients and stir, it will become more mushy!)
- Stir in the chopped tomato, cilantro, jalapeno, and white onion.
- Add the pinch of salt and lime juice.
- Taste.
- Do you like it? Does it need more salt or lime juice? Here are some different options to make it more…
- Zingy: Add salt, red prepper, and lime to taste.
- Spicy: Add red pepper flakes, red pepper, and a little more jalapeno to taste.
- Tex-Mex-y: Add red pepper and a little bit of fajita mix to taste (I know, weird, but it tastes really good).
