The NFL set a record when there were six undefeated teams by the time week six came about. But the pack had to be thinned out. Now it’s week 11 out of 16 with only the Carolina Panthers and the New England Patriots. At this point, the question isn't in a playoff sport, but whether or not the season is perfect. A perfect regular season is nothing new for Tom Brady and the Patriots as they won all 16 games in 2007 as well as both of their playoff games only to fall to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl for a record of 18-1-0. The Patriots nearly lost to the Giants this year winning by one point, and if they can get past the Peyton Manning-less Denver Broncos they are one week closer to an undefeated season.
Now on the topic of the Panthers, Cam Newton has led the Panthers to victory in season filled with touchdown dances, with their closest win being a four point win over the Seattle Seahawks. The Panthers are a younger team that has been coming into its own since Newton arrived in 2011. With a tight defense and a well-oiled offense the team has earned its undefeated status, but the rest of the season won’t be easy with the Saints, Falcons, Giants and the Buccaneers all looking to end that streak.
There is an optimism in believing that both teams will make it to the Superbowl and the better team will be crowned, but in a year where undefeated streaks have reached an expiration date (the Undertaker, Ronda Rousey, and the four former undefeated teams from week six) we can only wait and see which one of the mighty fall first and who makes it all the way.
