This calming music will bring a spirit to your heart and thanksgiving to your life. All the falling leaves and pumpkins will shed a new light in your life. The pumpkin and apple pie will taste better, and fall will feel complete.
1. "Transatlanticism" - Death Cab for Cutie
Death Cab's sound is relaxing enough as is, but this 7:22 song is pure gold for a rainy day. Let yourself lay back and let the music take you away. There is not much I can say to describe the glory of this song, it is just one of those you have to experience for yourself.
2. "Here With Me" - Susie Suh
The smooth sound of Susie Suh's voice lures you in like a Siren. This is one of those songs you want to listen to again and again until you know every word and sound. You hang on to every word until the very end. it is the perfect song for a rainy day full of thought.
3. "Let It Go" - James Bay
James Bay or James Bae, am I right? (Sorry that joke was awful, I know it. I'm just gonna own it, though.) James Bay is a wonderful singer, though, that cannot help but bring a smile and maybe a chill here and again to you your face and body. It is one of my favorites to play when I am trying to nap, the soothing voice can sing even the loudest of babies to sleep.
4. "Perth" - Bon Iver
For anyone who knows Bon Iver, you know that although his songs may be incoherent sometimes, he is the best rainy day singer. Perth is no exception, being a great song to get you through a tough time. Written for a close friend who killed himself, it is a seriously beautiful song written for what is described as a beautiful person. "You're breaking new ground."
5. "Midnight" - Tor Miller
New to the scene, Tor Miller killed it with his newest single, "Midnight." It's perfect for wanting to sleep or those times when you can not seem to fall asleep. It has the sound of a bar singer trying out his music on the locals, making it extremely familiar. It is a comforting song for the day.
6. "The One" - Kodaline
This gorgeous song can make any girl's heart melt away with each word. The simplicity of Kodaline is the beauty in the music, and this song is the simplest of them all. "The One" is the kind of song any person wants to be serenaded with, making it a great song for a day of relaxation and joy.
7. "Addict with a Pen" - Twenty One Pilots
My guilty pleasure song. Although it may not be similar to the other songs in the list, I could not help but sticking a Twenty One Pilots song in here. Between the simple and moving melody to the beautiful words that form a kind of prayer, this is one of the most thought-provoking songs I have heard to date.
8. "Iscariot" - Walk the Moon
"Iscariot" shines light on another side of Walk the Moon that I never saw coming. It is a slower pace than most of their songs and is another gut-wrencher. It evokes a serious kind of emotion that is perfect for a rainy day.
9. "Memo" - Years & Years
A new song from a band you've probably never heard of (actually that may be most of these songs). There is an interesting mix of electric and piano in this uplifting yet slow ballad. It always leaves me with a smile on my face.
10. "Humans" - The Scene Aesthetic
A personal all-time favorite song of mine. A good friend once shared this with me, and ever since, it has meant the world and a half to me. The love ballad's lyrics warm the heart of any swooning girl, as well. I am biased, but I can not help but feel in a trance whenever I am listening to this The Scene Aesthetic song. (Also, thank you, friend.)
11. "She" - Laura Mvula
"She" is a story. It is a story of woman, of a common woman at that. It is a narrative written and sang-spoke (if that is a thing) in such a poetic way. This is another song that just has to be heard to understand the magic behind the song.
12. "Arcadia" - The Kite String Tangle
This song reminds me a bit of a Bon Iver song (if only the chorus). It is a little more upbeat, but at the same time extremely relaxing. It is more coherent than Bon Iver and is a slow yet upbeat song. It is one of the more energetic of the songs of the list and is extremely catchy. (Shout out to my roommate, this always reminds me of you.)
13. "America" - First Aid Kit
Any Fleetwood Mac fans out there? This song is for you. It is a modern day Mac in my eyes. The folk feel and harmony of the two women sounds almost angelic in the layering of their voices. It is a feel good song that will definitely turn your bad day into a good one.
14. "Small Things" - Ben Howard
This Ben Howard song is a juxtaposition of simplicity and complication. If you are feeling down in the dumps, or like the most dramatic thing happened to you, listen to "Small Things" and you will rethink all of that. It is a song of revelation that will cause you to rethink all your small, petty issues, and will bring a new light to your life.
15. "Worry" - Jack Garratt
Jack Garratt has an Electric / R&B Soul sound that warms like a cup of cider on this cold, rainy day. One of the less relaxing songs on the playlist, this one makes the top of my life playlist. It is a song I can not seem to get sick of or shake off when I wanna listen to some quality music.
16. "Rocket Man" - My Morning Jacket
A new spin on an old favorite. My Morning Jacket's "Rocket Man" evoke oodles and doodles of emotion (any Californication fans out there? You know what I mean). It's calming sound and soothing voice of Jim James could put anyone to sleep (in the best way possible).
17. "Gold" - Wake Owl
This pop folk Mumford & Sons-esque song is soothing in all ways possible. It is underrated for the quality of a song that it is. It is a little more upbeat than the majority of the songs, and in turn, is a song to energize you on the dark and stormy day.
18. "Red Dust" - James Vincent McMorrow
If you have not yet experienced James Vincent McMorrow, you are missing out. Another slightly incoherent singer that does not need to make much sense, it just works. This song is another great song to hear while waking up for a nap or deep sleep, it wakes as you do.
19. "New York" - The Boxer Rebellion
If you could picture the perfect song for a movie shot of someone moving across the country, this would be it. "New York" helps your mind travel with your heart, and sends your thoughts soaring. Perfect for daydreaming, this song brings you back to life from your day of laziness.
20. "Work Horse" - Hozier
The most beautiful song from the self-titled album by the Irish singer-songwriter. Hozier's buttery voice and the deep drums and piano in the background will bring you to a new state of calming euphoria.
