5 Perfect Netflix Movies for A Girls' Night In
Our Golden Age

We all love going out on the weekends and embracing our youth, but sometimes, we need to take a step back. That’s when you grab your girls and have a movie night. Who wants to spend money on movies though? Netflix is for more than just binge watching Gossip Girl and your other fave TV shows. It can be tedious to sift through the seemingly uninteresting movies. So here you go: the best Netflix flicks for a girls night in. Get out your popcorn, candy, and or whip up some homemade treats cause it’s gonna be a long night.

1. Clueless

This is a 90’s classic. Just the fashion is enough to reel you into this movie, with Cher’s magical electronic closet and plaid patterned everything. Watch in awe as the resident beauty queen transforms the new girl into the cool girl and learns a ton about herself in the process.

2. Mean Girls

Yes, this is the epitome of a chick flick. But, for good reason. All hail Regina George! With Halloween coming up, this movie makes for perfect costume inspo. Because… I’m a mouse, duh. Make it a competition: who can quote the most lines? You know you won’t regret rewatching.

3. Heathers

If you’ve watched any of the classic teen 80’s movies (such as this one), you will probably recognize Winona Ryder. This movie is a thriller, not one for the faint-hearted. As the outcast of her friend group, Veronica meets the new kid in town. Slowly but surely, she realizes that he is none other than a (spoiler!) psychotic serial killer, yet he successfully frames his murders as suicides. Veronica must decide whether to go along with the killings or expose her new man.

4. Adventures in Babysitting

This lighthearted movie might remind you much of your own babysitting days, past or present. Chris Parker is ditched by her boyfriend and decides to accept a Friday night babysitting instead. When her friend calls for help in downtown Chicago, she takes off on a scary adventure, kids in tow.

5. Can’t Buy Me Love

Another throwback film, because the 80’s was the best era for movies, Can’t Buy Me Love shows the plight of a lowly teenage nerd to find a new life for himself. When the most beautiful girl in school is in desperate need of some extra cash, he pounces on an opportunity… as her new (fake) boyfriend

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs.
