The Perfect Low Budget Facial

In This Article:

Most college students are running on low energy and low budgets, and most of those college students take a mental health day. Luckily, there are many cheap things you can buy to make your mental health/ spa day the best it can be. Thank goodness for dollar stores! This is the facial routine that I use that works for me plus some relaxing activities to make your day off the best it can be.

1. Exfoliate Your Face

Whether you're taking a shower or just washing your face, exfoliating leaves your skin feeling nice and soft, removing all of the dead skin off of your face. Be careful not to exfoliate more than every two or three days. If you exfoliate every day, it might start cutting into your face and leaving it red.

Here's some cheap facial exfoliators!

2. Steam Your Face

There are facial steamers like this one that you can buy on Amazon but the cheaper option is to grab a pot and boil some water. Once the water is boiling, you can either keep it in the pot or pour it in a bowl. Then, you place your face over the hot water and put a towel over your head to keep the steam in. Sit there for 10-15 minutes. This opens your pores and helps clear out some of the trapped dirt. You can also add essential oils if you want. Essential oils like peppermint, tea tree, lavender, and eucalyptus can help with allergies, acne, colds, and more!

3. Face Mask

When your skin is clean and the remaining dirt is loose, put a face mask on! Here is a list of some relatively cheap face masks, most of which can be found at your local drug or dollar store. Most tubes last a really long time. If you have blackheads, I highly recommend using Biore strips. These strips pull them right out of your nose.

4. Moisturize

After your face routine, be sure to moisturize! You can use whatever moisturizer you have but facial lotion or toners are recommended.

5. Mental Health Day Continued...

This is the facial routine that I like to use whenever I take a mental health day. However, if you want more relaxation, keep reading!

6. Take a Bath

I don't take baths often, but when I do, it's for pure relaxation. Maybe use a bath bomb and drink some tea while soaking in the hot water!

7. Jam Out

Sing, dance, or just listen to your favorite songs!

8. Watch Your Favorite Show

Now is the time to binge watch your favorite TV show or watch a movie. Just lounge around, today is your day!

9. Read a Book

You finally have a day to read that book you've been putting off.

10. Get Your Nails Done

There is nothing like getting your nails done!

11. Your Hobby

Write in your journal, take some photos, take a nap, go for walk, whatever you like to do! This day belongs to you, enjoy it!

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

For a moment your world is spinning. The phone alarm has just scared you awake and you’re flooded by daunting thoughts of the day ahead. You have three assignments due and little time to work on them because of your job. You’re running late because you’ve hit snooze one to many times after yesterday’s long hours. You dizzily reach for a hoodie, craving its comfort, and rush for a speedy exit, praying you will have time to pick up coffee. Does this sound familiar?

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week. For some students, it's their first time in the library all semester, maybe ever. Others have slaved away many nights under the fluorescent lights, and are slightly annoyed to find their study space being invaded by amateurs. While these newbies wander aimlessly around the first floor, hopelessly trying to find a table, the OGs of the library are already on the third floor long tables deep into their studies. Here is a few signs that you may live in the library, whether you'd like to admit it or not.
