Creating a study space can be difficult depending on your own personal preference and how it clashes with the spaces provided by your school. Here are a few things that helped me turn my dorm into the ultimate study spot.
I have my desk set up right next to the window. Most days when I am studying (if it is not too cold outside) I leave the window open to allow fresh air to flow throughout the room. Fresh air can help to keep the mind focused and stop the feeling of claustrophobia from sneaking in during those last couple hours studying.
Working next to a window or outdoors is also a great idea because natural light is known to have great effects like increasing concentration, mood and energy levels. Studying where there is natural light will not only help you concentrate but will also provide you with a timer: when the sun goes down, you know it's time for a break.
My room is littered with small plants. They have been known to boost productivity by around 15 percent, reduce stress levels and help with concentration. Plants not only add aesthetic to your study space but also enhance your performance.
A lot of people have trouble working with distractions. The amount of distractions you need to study properly depends on personal taste. I always work with a chill playlist in the background that helps my mind stay relaxed and focused (it also gives me short dance breaks; getting up and moving in between activities is supposed to aid in productivity). However, maybe silence suits you better. Play around and see what noise levels are best for you to get work done.
Finally, and most importantly, it is necessary to have a space that is comfortable but not too comfortable. A dangerously comfortable study space is one where you might fall asleep or get distracted by social media too easily. Try thinking of a library; it provides just the right vibe to allow you to study without distraction, feel comfortable and not fall asleep.
Creating the perfect study space is self-determined. Try a lot of different spaces or techniques to find out what works best for you. The perfect study space for everyone is out there, just keep looking!
