The Perfect Day with Your Friends from High School

When you’re a country girl in college and don’t want to throw a party…

When you haven’t seen your friends for months you should definitely consider this as a legitimate template for your afternoon, evening, and night!

1. Spend those first moments of being reunited with your friend holding each other tight, like you’re gonna squeeze ‘em till they pop!

2. Drive! Drive anywhere, maybe down the interstate going to the city for the afternoon or down country roads, fish-tailing to miss the patches of mud or ruts.

3. Walk down your small-town main street in your warm jackets and dark jeans, grinning because your boots are making that thum-buh sound on the sidewalk every time you step.

4. Buy a pizza from the family owned restaurant in town and go back to one of your homes to eat it while you watch Disney princess movies or Battle Ship and Captain America 1, 2, and 3, whichever ones you’re feelin’ that day.

5. And remember to eat lots of Nilla wafers and animal crackers with birthday cake dip the ENTIRE night!

6. When the sun starts to set and the colors start to appear, go outside with some hot chocolate made with hot coffee instead of hot water and sit under the huge tree with the white painted branches and a thousand lights hung in them and watch the sunset.

7. From dusk on you can finally act your age by playing Sardines! The game where one person hides and everyone else searches, and when one person finds the original hider, they hide with them till everyone is packed into the hiding place, hence the name “sardines.”

8. After half a dozen rounds of this, you’re tired and cold, and all the hot chocolate-coffee is gone. You only have once option: go into town and buy donuts!

9. When you get back to the house your voices are pretty rocky from all the sugar you’ve eaten and the karaoke you've sang with the radio every time you’ve entered the car. But you can’t stop won’t stop! WEOOO!!

10. Since you aren’t girly girls from the city, manicures and such aren’t a huge draw for ya’ll. But maybe you’ll braid each other’s hair, or maybe you’ll go riding the four-wheeler or the horses, or maybe another movie and more food are in order. Anything to keep your time together from ending.

11. Nearing midnight you might call another friend to go crash at his or her house. Or perhaps, or maybe after a few failed invites to crash at someone’s house, you’ll start prank calling people. You know who to call too because over the years, you’ve been to lots of people’s houses and you’ve noted which houses have caller ID and which ones don’t.

12. Alas, your time is ending. Maybe you’ll sneak in a few dance sessions to your favorite pop or country songs, but eventually everyone must go to bed. Hugs goodbye and promises for more let you know that you’re still best friends after being apart for the first semester of college. You might cry, or you might be sleepy, but you’re smiling anyway.

Driving home you wonder when the next time will be…

Blair Waldorf Quote
"DESTINY IS FOR LOSERS. IT'S JUST A STUPID EXCUSE TO WAIT FOR THINGS TO HAPPEN INSTEAD OF MAKING THEM HAPPEN." - BLAIR WALDORF.

The world stopped in 2012 when our beloved show "Gossip Girl" ended. For six straight years, we would all tune in every Monday at 9:00 p.m. to see Upper Eastside royalty in the form of a Burberry headband clad Blair Waldorf. Blair was the big sister that we all loved to hate. How could we ever forget the epic showdowns between her and her frenemy Serena Van Der Woodsen? Or the time she banished Georgina Sparks to a Christian summer camp? How about that time when she and her girls took down Bart Bass? Blair is life. She's taught us how to dress, how to be ambitious, and most importantly, how to throw the perfect shade.

too tired to care

We've all been there. From move-in day to the first finals week in college, your first term is an adventure from start to finish. In honor of college decisions coming out recently, I want to recap some of the most common experiences college freshmen experience.

1. The awkward hellos on move-in day.

You're moving your stuff onto your floor, and you will encounter people you don't know yet in the hallway. They live on your floor, so you'll awkwardly smile and maybe introduce yourself. As you walk away, you will wonder if they will ever speak to you again, but don't worry, there's a good chance that you will make some great friends on your floor!

Dear High School Friend Group,

My sweet angels, where would I be without you guys. We all grew up together because we either met in middle school or high school and watched each other grow up and get "old." We got to go to prom together and then graduate together. Then watched each other as we continued our lives in college, joining sororities and meeting people who will impact our lives forever. It all has happened so fast.
