"You are blessed when people hate you, when they exclude you, insult you, and slander your name as evil because of the Son of Man. Rejoice in that day and leap for joy! Take note - your reward is great in heaven, for this is the way their ancestors used to treat the prophets." (Luke 6:22-23)
I don't know about you, but it always seems like I get the short end of the stick when it comes to people I socialize with. For example, when I'm not physically present, I am left out of plans. I can't lie, it's frustrating and it hurts to be excluded. But, yesterday my friend sent me this bible verse, and it made me angry that she thought of me when she came across it. Was she trying to tell me that I'm not supposed to be angry with everything that is going on? Why wouldn't I be angry? I was convinced that my friends don't actually enjoy spending time with me.
Then, I stopped myself. Being angry was an emotion I often resort to when the things stated in Luke 6:22 happen. I mean, who wouldn't? I have since sat myself down and surveyed this set of verses again but considered the second part more. And I have reached the conclusion that it is okay if people don't like you in this life on Earth. But, that does not change the fact that there is a Kingdom waiting for you up top.
Okay, so there are inevitably going to be people out there who don't like me. So, what? People will always find something about you that they don't like. People insulted Moses and look what he did. He took people from slavery and brought them to freedom. If someone puts you down, it means you are doing something that successful so jump with joy! You are doing something great.
We are in a world where we feel like we need to be accepted, but do we really? We are made to be social, but it is important to surround yourself wth people who lift you up. You have the power to choose who you socialize with, so pick people who won't bring you down. And never forget the Kingdom that is in heaven waiting for you to enter.
