How Pokemon GO Brings Me Hope

A few days ago, I was at the park in my hometown. The park had an unusually high amount of people in it, and they were all surrounding one big tree on the far side of the park. I went over there to see what was going on, and low and behold, they were all playing Pokemon GO. I pulled out my phone, turned on the app, and saw that they were all in the center of three PokeStops, and they all had lures on them. For those who may not play this game, this is the place where you can get prizes and catch lots of Pokemon. What I found amazing about this gathering was that everyone was socializing with each other. People from many different walks of life: different age, race, gender, ethnicity, and religion. These differences weren't even really noticed, because everyone there had bonded over their love for Pokemon. I also was surprised to see that many people would walk around the whole park to get to every PokeStop. This game is not only bringing people together, but it is getting people out of the house and exercising. The only way to get far in Pokemon GO is to walk and explore new places. This game gets people off the couch and communicating with others, in a technological society that prefers to talk through phone, text or internet. I have made friends with people that I would never have seen, let alone talked too, if it was not for this game. There will always be people who want to see the negative in such a game, but I have seen for myself how this game has brought people together. There will be people who are not responsibly using the app, but that should not totally take away from the good that is being done. Especially, with all of the tragedies that are wrecking havoc on our nation, I see this as a shining light. If only our nation could come together as one, like all of these Pokemon players have done, then I believe we could make a powerful difference.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. These are eleven thoughts that I have as a writer while writing my stories.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
