I have lived in Maryland the past thirteen years and I am still not tired of it! There is so much to do and many things to explore. Whether you're here for the weekend or here to stay, you should definitely check out some of these activities!

1. Living near the Chesapeake Bay

Megan Adair

Although the bay is not full of the cleanest water, it still contains tons of fun activities. Many people are against swimming in it because of it's murky color but several activities will keep you dry while still out on the water. The most popular activities would be kayaking, paddle boarding, and boating. Being out on the water is aways calming but fun as well. Other activities include sailing, wind surfing, crabbing, fishing, jet skiing, the possibilities are endless.

2. Home of the blue crab

Maryland is well known for their blue crabs that live in the Chesapeake bay. These are commonly caught and cooked. Whether you're making crab soup or crab cakes, the outcome is guaranteed to be tasty. There is also a sense of pride that comes along with catching the crabs then making your dinner.

3. The short distance to Washington D.C.

Well, we tried

Washington D.C. is one of the best places to be, there is always so much going on that it is impossible to be bored. There is a wide variety of museums from natural history to modern art, there are the monuments in the national mall, then there is plenty of cute stores in Georgetown for all the shopoholics out there. It is impossible to do all this in a single day, to fully explore D.C. requires at least a week.

4. Downtown Annapolis

Downtown Annapolis is actually very similar to Charleston in several ways. It contains a lot of history but also several new shops and restaurants that are always fun to explore. Even just walking along the brick roads or people watching, downtown is always filled with excitement.

5. The state parks

Maryland has several state parks within hours of each other. Most contain great hiking trails, picnic spots, and some even have waterfalls or swimming holes. Kilgore falls is located at Rocks State Park. To locate the waterfall requires a short hike into the woods. There is a never ending stream that you can swim in to cool off, there are rocks to jump off, then there is the waterfall where you can stand under or climb to the top. The state parks make you appreciate the nature that surrounds you.

6. The endless adventures

Maryland contains several adventurous things to do. Travis Pastrana is a professional motorsports competitor who lives in Maryland and sometimes allows friends and neighbors to go over and explore his backyard which is honestly an adult playground. Pictured is a friend dropping from an insane height onto the cushion. Pastrana's backyard contains several other activities to get your adrenaline racing. But you don't have to be in his backyard to be on an adventure. Other crazy, yet common activities include bridge jumping, zip lining, and rock climbing. Maryland is a wonderful state that never fails to provide new adventures.

Those are just a few of the several reasons why I love Maryland and am proud to call it my home.

New year, new semester, not the same old thing. This semester will be a semester to redeem all the mistakes made in the previous five months.

1. I will wake up (sorta) on time for class.

Let's face it, last semester you woke up with enough time to brush your teeth and get to class and even then you were about 10 minutes late and rollin' in with some pretty unfortunate bed head. This semester we will set our alarms, wake up with time to get ready, and get to class on time!

And so it begins.

1. Walk in motivated and ready to rock

Camping out at the library is not for the faint of heart. You need to go in as a warrior. You usually have brought supplies (laptop, chargers, and textbooks) and sustenance (water, snacks, and blanket/sweatpants) since the battle will be for an undetermined length of time. Perhaps it is one assignment or perhaps it's four. You are motivated and prepared; you don’t doubt the assignment(s) will take time, but you know it couldn’t be that long.

December... it's full of finals, due dates, Mariah Carey, and the holidays. It's the worst time of the year, but the best because after finals, you get to not think about classes for a month and catch up on all the sleep you lost throughout the semester. But what's worse than finals week is the last week of classes, when all the due dates you've put off can no longer be put off anymore.

Thanksgiving break is over and Christmas is just around the corner and that means, for most college students, one hellish thing — finals week. It's the one time of year in which the library becomes over populated and mental breakdowns are most frequent. There is no way to avoid it or a cure for the pain that it brings. All we can do is hunker down with our books, order some Dominos, and pray that it will all be over soon. Luckily, we are not alone in this suffering. To prove it, here are just a few of the many deranged thoughts that go through a college student's mind during finals week.

I know every college student has daily thoughts throughout their day. Whether you're walking on campus or attending class, we always have thoughts running a mile a minute through our heads. We may be wondering why we even showed up to class because we'd rather be sleeping, or when the professor announces that we have a test and you have an immediate panic attack.
