There is hope.

To The People That Have Lost Themselves,

When you were little, you had the most fearless outlook on life. Nothing scared you. Whether it be physical, mental, or emotional. Little you was content with what and who they were. There were so many adventures ahead of you and you wanted to take them all. You weren't afraid of failure.

Somewhere along the journey, fear crept into your mind without notice. Maybe someone called you a terrible name, or every person you came across judged everything that you have grown to be thus far. People were screaming, telling you who to be. You lost yourself in the process of trying to change yourself. You constantly heard the labels and nicknames everyone had for you. When they moved on, you were constantly reminded of it all. It may not be their voices anymore, but now it's your own.

You began to hate yourself for the simple things like what you looked like, the way you acted, and who you were attracted to. Every negative thing that happened in your life defined you. It all began to take a toll on your energy. Your cries for help became silent. Your pain turned into unbearable self-hate. You saw no shot of happiness in the future. You were constantly tired of fighting the war going on inside that you turned it off. You are lost. You are lost in the pain. You gave up on yourself after realizing everyone around you gave up on you too.

I am here to tell you to regain hope. I understand that you feel as though you have hit rock bottom. If this is true, if you are truly at rock bottom, the only other way to go is up. So try because there is only one direction to go. Turn your self-hate into self worth. I know that seems impossible, but with every negative thought you can counteract it with a positive one. Your frown, your tears, your pain, that can all turn into a beautiful life lesson.

Whether you are 12, 25, or 60, you are still eligible to become everything you should be. Before everyone telling you who you should be, you had a set path to walk. The fear of failure is eating you alive. The only way one fails is if they have given up without trying all of the options. You are free to be yourself and so much more. Be proud of the real you.

Much Love,

The Girl Who Found Herself

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

As an English Major in college, I have a lot of writing and especially creative writing pieces that I work on throughout the semester and sometimes, I'll find it hard to get the motivation to type a few pages and the thought process that goes behind it. Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
