On the corner of Indiana and 4th st. The outskirts of the 60 freeway bridge. A very small fraction of the homeless in East Los Angeles reside. The number of people fluctuate.
I live only three blocks down on Indiana and 6th. I pass by frequently on foot and do not feel harmed by the homeless. I asked people walking by that live in the surrounding area. Most people around there say they feel safe but are not exactly happy about it either. They say that most of the people have been there for years. They don't feel threatened but they feel that it is not a pretty sight. They said that the homeless will not likely hurt you but just leave a lot of trash lying around. The homeless seem to clutter up many belongings they were able to keep through their transition into homlessness and also materials they found important along their homeless journey. I looked around for homeless but there was no one to be found. Neighborhood people walking by told me that it gets filled with about 5-10 people throughout the night. In this section of the city of East Los Angeles. A few homeless have freely made their home off the grid. No bills, no jobs, and no acknowledgement.
