To The People Who Are Going Solo On Valentine's Day

Boyfriend bonfires (ala Monica, Pheobe, and Rachel) and extensive consumption of Dove's heart-shaped dark chocolate are the yearly Valentine's Day prescriptions for single ladies and even men. But- what about the non-bitter singles that actually don't mind being single on Valentine's Day? I feel like since this is a celebration, why not it be a celebration for us too? In other words, don't sit at home and eat a whole tub of ice cream.

There are so many ways to get out there and have a good time than laying around and moping on your couch, so even if the romance department didn't work out this year, that doesn't mean you can't go out and enjoy yourself. Here are five ideas that do not glorify romance, but as a day to celebrate love in general. Having a day in which you can reconnect with yourself is much better than the pressure that comes with actual Valentine's Day.

1. Indulge Yourself

Since February 14th is meant for love, then love yourself. Spend your day loving yourself, makes sense right? Play hooky from work, classes, any responsibilities, and do whatever you want. Pamper yourself- get your nails done, go to the sauna, get a massage, binge-watch a full season on Netflix. After all, you're the one that needs to be pleased.

2. Fall in love with something new

Have you been wanting to try yoga? Spinning? Kick boxing? Turbokick? Have you been wanting to learn how to cook? Dance? Challenge yourself to do something that you haven't done before, it will make you much happier.

3. Send love to someone else

Kindness spreads. If you aren't getting loved by someone, spread some love to someone else. Send someone a Valentine's day card- think outside of the box. Coworker, person who sits behind you in class, your favorite barista at Starbucks, whoever it may be.

4. Secret Santa... Secret Valentine?

Obviously we've all heard about Secret Santa, but why not Secret Valentine? Apply the concept of Secret Santa to Secret Valentine with your friends. Get everyone to put their names in a hat, draw names, and get the person who you have a gift and then on V-Day exchange them! Get dressed up, hit the town, and sing some karaoke. May I suggest, Sir-Mix-A-Lot's Baby Got Back.

5. Throw a party

Unleash your inner Bey and throw a Flawless V-Day Party with all your single friends and celebrate being H O T.

If you don't believe that this may be your time yet, or whether you believe that it will never happen, I assure you, everyone, including YOU, can fall in love; not to mention, it usually happens when you least expect it. Take this time to write down some love goals, whether you think you wanna be single for the next 10 days, or 10 years- figure it out. Things will always work out in the end.

As college students, we are all familiar with the horror show that is course registration week. Whether you are an incoming freshman or selecting classes for your last semester, I am certain that you can relate to how traumatic this can be.

1. When course schedules are released and you have a conflict between two required classes.

Bonus points if it is more than two.

Raising the minimum wage to a livable wage would not only benefit workers and their families, it would also have positive impacts on the economy and society. Studies have shown that by increasing the minimum wage, poverty and inequality can be reduced by enabling workers to meet their basic needs and reducing income disparities.

I come from a low-income family. A family, like many others in the United States, which has lived paycheck to paycheck. My family and other families in my community have been trying to make ends meet by living on the minimum wage. We are proof that it doesn't work.

April Ludgate

Every college student knows and understands the struggle of forcing themselves to continue to care about school. Between the piles of homework, the hours of studying and the painfully long lectures, the desire to dropout is something that is constantly weighing on each and every one of us, but the glimmer of hope at the end of the tunnel helps to keep us motivated. While we are somehow managing to stay enrolled and (semi) alert, that does not mean that our inner-demons aren't telling us otherwise, and who is better to explain inner-demons than the beloved April Ludgate herself? Because of her dark-spirit and lack of filter, April has successfully been able to describe the emotional roller-coaster that is college on at least 13 different occasions and here they are.
