I am a Christian and I was raised fairly conservative, but I can not understand how anyone that is a Christian can support this Immigrant or Muslim Ban.

Before looking at statistics let’s look into The Bible. Jesus was an immigrant. He was up-rooted from his home as a baby and had to escape from King Herod and the killings of baby boys two years old and younger. These Muslims have been up-rooted from their homes, some of them were babies when they had to escape the killings of innocent humans. Jesus was raised in a faith that had rules on how one acted, spoke, and dressed. Muslims live by the Islamic faith that has rules that usher them to do the same. Jesus was welcomed into a foreign land on Palm Sunday, as an immigrant, before being accused and sentenced to death. When Pontius Pilate had to release a prisoner to the people of Jerusalem before the Passover, they rather put Barabbas (a murderer) back into society than release an innocent immigrant who they are clearly only fearful of because they do not understand His ways. The United States has always taken pride in being known as a diverse place to live. Before 9/11 they were more accepting of Muslims, but now they look overlook what all the harm American citizens do to their own people and decide to unwelcome and ban people of a religion they do not understand.

An idea that Jesus personified was helping the least of these. He said, “For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” Matthew 25:35-36 NIV. The world and the way it is today, exemplifies that it is our time to love and care for the strangers, the Muslims. These people have been wandering from camps to camps looking for a place to finally have roots, and why not welcome them to take root in a country founded by Christians.

Now to take a look at the hard facts and statistics. There has only been 1 terror attack in the United States since 9/11 acted out by an Immigrant. That was the Ohio State University attack where a Somali immigrant was the attacker. Every other attack in the United States have been done by home-grown Barabbas’ who were militants (white supremacists or military) or Muslim radicals (people who twist the Quran for their gain). We are using fear from 9/11 and the ignorance and intolerance of what the Muslim faith really is as an excuse to not include them into the strangers that Jesus has instructed us to help.

To the Christians that are angered by this, I am not sorry. You can not over look some of the core values of The Bible because you are afraid. To the Christians that are rethinking their ideas on the ban, you are welcome.

Today I started my third week of college at Minnesota State Moorhead. I have survived welcome week, finding my classes on the first day, and being an awkward loner in the dining hall. Even though I have yet to be here for a month, I have already experienced many thoughts and problems that only a new college student can relate to.

"Make sure to get involved when you're in college!"

We've all heard some variation of this phrase, whether it came from parents, other family members, friends, RAs, or college-related articles. And, like many clichés, it's true for the most part. Getting involved during your college years can help you make friends, build your resume, and feel connected to your campus. However, these commitments can get stressful if you're dealing with personal issues, need to work, or aren't sure how to balance classes and everything else going on during the semester.

In college, one of the essential things to have is friends. Yes, textbooks, a laptop, and other school supplies are important but friends are essential. Friends are that support system everybody needs. The more friends you have the better the support system you have. But you also have someone to share experiences with. And don’t settle for just one or two friends because 8 out of 10 times they are busy and you are studying all alone. Or they have other friend groups that do not include you. Don’t settle for just one or two friends; make as many friends as you can. After the first couple of weeks of college, most friend groups are set and you may be without friends.

Finals week is upon us. It is a magical time of year during which college students everywhere flock to the library in attempt to learn a semester's worth of knowledge in only a week.
