People Are Awesome

Because the world needs to acknowledge the positives too

In light of all the awful things that have been going on recently in our country and our world, there are also so many things to be positive about.

Because honestly, a few people are bad...but a ton of people are simply awesome.

See, the media blows up the horrific people, the tragedies, and the devastations. In turn, the citizens of the world go to a place in their minds where we start to wrongfully believe that this world is doomed. We become concerned and afraid about many things. We also become hopeless for the generations to follow us. The truth is, though, there is so much good in this world. Need proof? There's nothing that offers more proof than after a tragedy does strike. People all over the world come together in prayer. People all over the world send their thoughts and their positive vibes. People, together, put their energy into projects that they believe will help change the world. People do not back down in light of tragedies, they unite and rise together to find a solution.

People are awesome.

There are so many great people that immensely outnumber the bad, and you know how I know this? I know this because I am a very social and outgoing girl. I know this because I have met many, many people and meet new people every day. I've moved to a town where I knew no one. And you know what? Maybe a few times in my entire life have I encountered someone I would call a "bad person". Sure, there are bad people everywhere and people have different, unfortunate cases- but I am confident in saying that the good people far outweigh the bad.

People are awesome.

Something I think about a lot is that I've met so many people who are not condemners, but lovers and supporters. They don't put people down because of how they live their lives. They don't banish people to hell because they live life differently than themselves. They're such accepting people that I've met with such big hearts for anyone and everyone. As a Christian, I try my very best to be like these people... because see, hate is the root that causes every single bad thing in the world to happen. If we could all just simply love on one another a little more, this world would be so much more peaceful and livable. Only love can drive out hate, and the people that constantly show love give me hope.

People are awesome.

There are literally hundreds of people I have met that give me such a different outlook on humanity, but what gives me the most hope of all is that I know that there is a God who reigns in heaven and Earth and that His people on Earth are ever-shining their light to continue to keep this world intact. There are millions and millions of Christ-followers in this world, and that, above all, gives me the utmost amount of hope.

People are awesome.

Will you be one of these people? The choice is one you can make each morning when you wake up. Be awesome, and choose to give people hope each and every day. Many people need hope in a time like this, where tragedies are happening what seems like every day. Be the reason someone has faith restored in humanity. Never doubt the world, God's got this, and we can help him out.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

"A Christmas Story" is the star on top of the tree.

The Great Christmas Movie Debate

One staple of the Christmas season is sitting around the television watching a Christmas movie with family and friends. But of the seemingly hundreds of movies, which one is the star on the tree? Some share stories of Santa to children ("Santa Claus Is Coming to Town"), others want to spread the Christmas joy to adults ("It's a Wonderful Life"), and a select few are made to get laughs ("Elf"). All good movies, but merely ornaments on the Christmas tree of the best movies. What tops the tree is a movie that bridges the gap between these three movies, and makes it a great watch for anyone who chooses to watch it. Enter the timeless Christmas classic, "A Christmas Story." Created in 1983, this movie holds the tradition of capturing both young and old eyes for 24 straight hours on its Christmas Day marathon. It gets the most coverage out of all holiday movies, but the sheer amount of times it's on television does not make it the greatest. Why is it,
then? A Christmas Story does not try to tell the tale of a Christmas miracle or use Christmas magic to move the story. What it does do though is tell the real story of Christmas. It is relatable and brings out the unmatched excitement of children on Christmas in everyone who watches. Every one becomes a child again when they watch "A Christmas Story."

It’s here; that time of year when college students turn into preschoolers again. We cry for our mothers, eat everything in sight, and whine when we don’t get our way. It’s finals, the dreaded time of the semester when we all realize we should have been paying attention in class instead of literally doing anything else but that. Everyone has to take them, and yes, unfortunately, they are inevitable. But just because they are here and inevitable does not mean they’re peaches and cream and full of rainbows. Surviving them is a must, and the following five phases are a reality for all majors from business to art, nursing to history.
