We've all seen it: the photo featuring Kim K by her lonesome, naked and holding a dress below her insanely large derrière with a huge smile on her face.
"Break the Internet," Paper Magazine called it. Let's call it what it really is — pornography. And this isn't the only photo. Other photographs from the same shoot were also released, including a full frontal image of Kim with that same gaping smile on her face. There's even another photo of her with the dress actually on, balancing a wine glass on her butt while champagne shoots from her arms, over her head and into the glass.
To each her own, but honestly — is this really what we want girls who look up to Kim seeing and aspiring to be like? Following the posting of this picture on Instagram, Kim posted a tweet reading,
"And they say I didn't have a talent ... try balancing a champagne glass on your a** LOL."
I'm sorry, but if she honestly thinks that is something to brag about, that is saddening. First of all, Kim basically became a celebrity from her sex tape with Ray J, so I'm sorry, but I have to agree with the statement of her having no real talent. Considering people even have to question what her talent is, it's pretty clear that she hasn't done anything very significant to prove her so-called "talent." And no, posing naked doesn't count.
Secondly, if you believe that photo is not heavily photoshopped, you are in for a rude awakening. Our society produces such an unrealistic image of the ideal body, leaving so many people with eating disorders and body issues. Publishing images of Kim's humongous cellulite-free bum and tiny, tiny waist is just absurd. With so many images claiming to be free from Photoshop, it's amazing to see how much can be done to edit a photo. Sadly, many girls and boys will see these photos and continue to buy into this unrealistic perception of what women should desire to look like. We, as a society, need to put more emphasis on actual positive role models.
A perfect example of this is a tweet I saw consisting of the now infamous naked photo of Kim Kardashian and another photo of Angelina Jolie. Angelina wears a genuinely empathetic expression on her face as she sits across from a man dressed in his culture's clothing; he holds her hand as he cries. And this isn't the first of this type of photo collage. There has been a frenzy of tweeted photos about Kim Kardashian and Angelina Jolie. One photo captioned, "there are two types of women," proves that there are some people with good heads on their shoulders who are able to distinguish between those women who represent what is wrong with today's society and those who give women a good reputation.
Instead of giving Kim attention for posting fully nude pictures of her body for all to see, we should instead be giving our attention to people who actually benefit our world, such as Angelina Jolie. Accomplishing so many things for our world, including being a Goodwill Ambassador for 10 years as well as a Special Envoy of High Commissioner Guterres for the UN, she is the type of woman we should be encouraging girls to strive to be like. Sorry, Kim, but I can't say your naked pictures "broke the Internet." Instead, they just added to the hundreds of superficial and embarrassing photos of women who chose to showcase their bodies for money.
